Super User WRB Posted March 15, 2024 Super User Posted March 15, 2024 Dry FC line is a nightmare and needs to be lubricated so the will wet. KVD line conditioner is popular and adds a wetting agent. Why on earth you wanted a DC reel when you know how to cast is beyond me. Fill the spool about 2 penny thicknesses (1/8”) below spool rim. Tom 1 Quote

Tom I personally picked it up thinking it be great for skipping buzzbaits and chatterbaits under docks. Not so much. Quote
Woody B Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Like @GreenPig I thought a DC reel would be the thing for skipping. I have a couple DC's and really like them, but don't use them for skipping. I get more distance out of them than any other reels. I would never refer to a DC reel as "hard to backlash". For me the hardest to backlash reels are Daiwa with the SV spool. The problem with them is I HATE THE "WING" SYSTEM. I have a habit of keeping my index finger under my line for feel. This picks the line up out of the guide and caused uneven spooling. The brakes, at least for me are great for skipping but I use a Shimano XT with centrifugal brakes for skipping so I don't get the spooling mess. After decades of having my index finger under the line it's a hard habit to break. I also think having the finger in contact with the line aids in strike detection. Perhaps this wouldn't be necessary with a more expensive rod, but a $100 rod is top of the line for me. 1 Quote

That would be awesome, but unfortunately I don't think that exists anymore does it? Last example I know of that was the original SV103. Love the one I have and certainly would buy more!! 1 Quote

Last time I checked they were around $96. They are still around! The handle looks like an 85mm. I would get a 95mm with the long Zillion HD/Tatula Elite Flip like knobs. I'm a big fan on that handle and knobs. 1 Quote

Super User Koz Posted March 17, 2024 Super User Posted March 17, 2024 I have a couple of Curado DC’s and have not experienced any issues with them. I like them because they are more forgiving when you’re fishing in the middle of the night and can’t always judge when the bait will hit the water. 2 Quote
