stratos4me Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Why is it that I can bounce an old rapala off a thousand docks without damage BUT the first time I bounce off a pontoon with a $25 ONETEN the bill breaks off? Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted March 13, 2024 Super User Posted March 13, 2024 Could be worse - you can probably still use yours as a topwater - lol. I've broken 3 or 4 (or 5) over the years. Seems like the colder the air/water, the greater the chances. 2 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 13, 2024 Super User Posted March 13, 2024 I seem to recall this coming up before. I would contact Megabass and see if they will do anything for you about it, especially if its brand new. The only other suggestion I can think of it to avoid bouncing jerk baits off docks and pontoons altogether. Can't imagine that makes a lakeshore owner very happy either. 1 Quote

I'm not going to contact megabass because, in the end, I hit a dock. As for your other "recommendation", when you fish almost every day in all conditions like I do, occasionally a gust of wind or hickup in your gear will cause a cast to go astray. I live on a bass lake. Guys hit my dock all the time. It's one of the compromises people make to live lakefront. It's also part of the reason I bought an alumnium boat. 3 Quote

Super User Solution AlabamaSpothunter Posted March 13, 2024 Super User Solution Posted March 13, 2024 That's a real by product of the 110's lip, the 110 bill is actually made to flex on hard twitches to dampen the action. The 110 is a "tap the slack" style colder/cold water jerkbait........compare that with a much more violent Jackall Rerange that excels in warmer waters, or even the Shimano World Minnow that is kind of a blend b/t the two. All three are similar sized/depth ranges, all three have different thickness lips, and the 110 is easily, and noticeably smallest/thinnest, and can even flex by hard human touch. It's made thin by design. The 110 for all its faults, is the most engineered and perfected jerkbait I've seen to date. eta: read your second reply about not contacting MB 3 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 13, 2024 Super User Posted March 13, 2024 Over the 20 or so years that I have been fishing the 110, I have only broken 3. Megabass replaced 2 of those. Based on the amount of time and years I have fished them, 3 isn't too bad. I also don't tend to loose to many compared to say crankbaits. My advice, don't bounce them (or any lure) off of a dock. 1 Quote
Texas Flood Posted March 13, 2024 Posted March 13, 2024 Ive never thought to bounce a jerkbait off a boat before. I mainly use Vision 110's, so I wont be doing that anytime soon. 1 Quote

The other thing is that I've never broken a oneten Jr. I've thought about this a bit and I think another part of the reason they break easily is the weight. The little rapallas I banged off granite boulders and everything else 30 years ago had a stouter lip AND it only weighed 3/16 oz vs a oneten at I think 1/2 oz. That's a big difference in momentum. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 They don't like docks. shore rocks ect. If you fish visions long enough you will break one. We used to have a local guy who could replace the bill and it actually worked but I don't think they fished the same. 1 Quote

You would be surprised what they might do. It's worth a quick message to them, you'll have to put some effort into and send it to them but I had a situation which 100% was my fault and they replaced it. Took about 2 weeks or so. Loyal customer now, so worth it to them with so many options. 2 Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted April 18, 2024 Super User Posted April 18, 2024 @stratos4me, I broke a bill off a Vision 110 fishing shallow up at Clear Lake. My guide said to contact Megabass and they’d probably replace it. I was skeptical, but I did contact them. To my surprise, Megabass said they would replace it. All I had to do was fill out a form and mail the damage bait to them ($5.00 USPS). The only thing was it took an extra week because the damaged 110 color was Megabass sexy shad and they were due to arrive with the next shipment. Just great customer service just like their products. Give ‘em a call, what’s the worst thing they could say, “No?” Good luck 1 Quote

The thing that sucked was I only had one in that color and they were chewin’ on it. Quote
