Stetson Davis, 11, missed a day of class to go on a last-minute fishing trip with his father. It paid off big-time.

Stetson’s father Brodey is no stranger to catching big fish, either; he caught a 17-pounder at O.H. Ivey in 2022. So he knew to call the Toyota ShareLunker Program—a Texas Parks & Wildlife initiative that collects big angler-caught bass and uses them for a trophy spawning program. The program dispatched a crew to the lake to pick up the fish, which would go down as ShareLunker Legacy Class fish—as well as the Lake J B Thomas Junior Angler Record. “My goal now is to try to get another Junior Lake Record,” says Stetson.

Lucky kid. I had no idea that you could cast at a bass 15 times and it won't hit, won't hit, won't hit, etc....and then it will hit.

He skipped school to go fishing?  Poor kid.  Now he'll never know who won the Montferrat War of Succession.  That's gonna haunt him the rest of his life.

Can’t remember who but someone on here has this in his signature. I thought of it as soon as I read this.

” Education is important but Fishing is importanter” 😁

He didn't skip school.  He transferred to another school for the day.  It was an awesome day at the school of bass where he graduated with straight A's

11 years old and already have and almost unbreakable PB, that sucks... (envy)

Also, he should not get any recognition for skipping school.

Lot of pressure on a 11 year old to break that PB going forward. Congrats to Stetson.

I mean life only happens once and sometimes you just feel that big fish mojo.  My parents pulled me out of school for dumber stuff growing up plenty of times.  🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

His dad caught a 17+ from Ivie two years ago, and he netted that fish for his dad.

Kid has never known anything but monster Bass.

Kudos to a wonderful father, we all should be so lucky and blessed.

@Pat Brown   Does an exceptional job with Jake in this regard.

I would consider this a very good extracurricular activity.

Cool story. Lucky to had a dad who's able to share the hobby. My dad used to do a "skip day" every few years, I can remember one of a trip to Chicago and going up the Sears tower.

"I cast at her 15 or 20 times,” says Stetson. “I was about to give up because I thought the fish was flat out blind."

I'm not a fan of bed fishing but to each their own. Wait I'm hearing this was using FFS, not bed fishing. Well like they say you can't force them to bite...🤔

Maybe he's just on the fast track to learning fishing isn't all about catching the biggest or most fish, something it normally takes some people a lifetime of fishing to realize once they've finally gotten pretty good at it.

Roland Martin claims he cast to the same bass something like 72 times before the bass finally blew a gasket and wrecked his lure.

Guido Hibdon using his Guido Bug would seek out of the way spots to fish them for hours to catch the bigger bass using light line.

Good Fishing
