badfish79 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Does anyone know if the frame from the Curado 200 DC is identical to the 150, with just a deeper spool? Or is it an overall slightly larger reel? Thanks. Quote
Super User GaryH Posted March 11, 2024 Super User Posted March 11, 2024 The 200dc is larger in dimensions and weight. 7.9oz. To 8.1oz. 1 Quote
Hulkster Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 I was under the impression that the 200 size reels were slightly wider than the 150 size reels 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 11, 2024 Super User Posted March 11, 2024 I believe the frame sizes are different on the 200 series versus the 150 sizes across the Shimano line. 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Look to be the same size to me. The Shimano numbering system is some reference to capacity and while this can mean smaller spool means smaller reel it can also just be a shallower spool or make no sense at all like the shallow spool Engetsu 100 based on the Scorpion 70. Peacedivision Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Definitely different frames. The 200 is roughly 1/8" wider. 1 Quote
T2DM Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 200DC should be a little bit wider than the 150DC, 150 DC spool inside diameter can't be modified due to the size of the DC inductor/module, the only way to add more line capacity is to make the spool wider. 1 Quote
Bigbox99 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 They look identical in every pic I have seen. I know the Curado 150 MGL and 200K are different platforms with different frames and spool dimensions but the Curado DC 150 is not a DC version of the Curado 150 MGL. It looks like it's still based on the 200K platform. The 200K DC has always had a shallower spool than the 200k to accommodate the DC unit in the ID of the spool. It is possible Shimano simply renamed the 200 DC to a 150 DC to reflect the capacity like they did with the Scorpion 150 MGL. Daiwa did something similar with the old Tatula reels and renamed the old 100 to a 150 HD when the newest 100 at the time had less capacity than the old 100 they sought to re-release as an HD reel. Bigbox99 Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Now that I look into it I'm not sure. The 200 is the "new" reel and the 150 is the old. For some reason I always thought the Curado DC was a 200. The 150 and 200 look identical in pictures but there is a 0.2 oz weight difference and a stated increase in line capacity. It small enough of a change that the two could use identical frames and spools with the slight weight increase coming from a change in handle length and possibly to thicker knobs. Daiwa did this with their Tatula 150 HD and took the old 100 and added a longer handle then changed how they rated the line cap to give it a 150 rating. The only way to tell would be to have 200 DC and 150 DC spools side by side. If it is larger it certainly isn't by much. 1 Quote
