jighead56 Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 (edited) Was hoping I could get fishing reports for this lake update. Been a year since I've been here. Looking for recent fishing reports on recent water temps, water clarity, lure selections for pre/post spawn catches. Productive patterns etc. Will be there April 14th this year. And have had great success finding some nice poundage. i understand that all secrets wont be revealed but, with the one weekend planned would like to hear what your plan would be to land the double digit bass. Any help is greatly appreciated. Jighead Edited March 10, 2024 by jighead56 Location added Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 10, 2024 Super User Posted March 10, 2024 Last year in early May I fished Sandy and Philpott, spent a week. Sandy was very stained but did ok on spinnerbaits, Jerkbaits and Dark colored jigs. Water temps were 62* and I mainly fished the upper section of Sandy River. Philpott was gin clear and I could physically see bass on beds. Heading back down again for a week, early May again. Good luck and sorry I couldn't give a current report. 1 Quote
jighead56 Posted March 25, 2024 Author Posted March 25, 2024 Thanks Bird. Years ago I fished the Philpot impoundment back in June. It's a nice clear lake. Distance casting was the key. Spooking the fush was an issue. Sandy Bottom River Reservoir outside of Farmville Reservoir water clarity was poor dye to recent rains. Sight fishing wasn't the key. Water temp was mid 50s back in April 2023. Jerk baits was the go to pattern . Nothing large. But a few 3-4# transitional prespawners were had. Square Bill's also produced same short fish. Spent a day chunking Swimbaits hoping the main points would be the prespawner pattern but, to no avail. Lots of rain in early March this 2024 year in this area. So, I suspect it will be murky again this April. Again thank you for the report. Anyone been here in March 2024? 1 Quote
