Triton9 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 well this is one of those questions when you could ask nine different fishermen this same question and you would probly get nine diffrent answers, but for me it would probably be one of the classic jigs, a lunker lure triple rattle-back jig is my fav, but i make my own finesse jigs Quote
Lightninrod Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Look closely at the unique line tie. Great hook, skirt, colors, and it sits upright on its flat bottom with a 'chunk' style trailer. Note, no 'eyes' on the jig's body and IMO, there should be none as that's the 'tail' of the jig/crawfish imitator. Dan Quote
CJ Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I think you would want to consider what, such as cover, and where, such as water depth. I wouldn't recomend a football jig in grass, for example. I haven't fished the JigX or a jig that ties on differently. The first and most important part of a jig is it's hook,IMO. Quote
basspro48 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I really like the Persuader Big jig in black/blue with a paca chunk trailer (this combo has landed a 6lber and three 4+'s this year) But I also like the All-Terrain jig, Eakins/jewel jigs, and me and Triton9's own homemade finesse jigs. Quote
Triton9 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 yeah BP48, thanks for backin up our jigs haha Quote
Super User David P Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 Evolution jigs Skinny Bear Jigs MicroMunch (I've heard great things and just placed an order, Great guy from BR makes them) I haven't tried Jig X yet but just about to order some. T-Rig has been schooling me on some jigs that i haven't tried but i'll let him post the ones he likes. I think every jig fisherman has his or her own beliefs, and confidence jigs / trailers. The most important thing obviously is the hook, and the skirt. Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 Terry Oldham's Jigs A jig is simply a tool, and these are designed to do the job right in the rough and tangled depths where lunker bass prowl. The upturned head and line tie eye are designed to slice through vegetation, and Oldham's Screw-Lock system allows you to fish all day using just one or two trailers. Equipped with super strong Gamakatsu hooks and premium silicone skirts, this is the jig that's been winning all the money on the lakes with deep grass cover !! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 Jig X is also my favorite,i also use pj's,booya, strike king, eakins and a bunch of homemade from people online who make them. As long as the hook is sharp it's all good.I've thrown 3 jigs away so far from dull hooks, some reason i'm funny about trying to resharpen them.I fish for smallmouths alot of times and those guys have some hard boney mouths,a good sharp hook is a must. Super User Jeff H Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 GMAN's poison tails do the job for me and are the best jig I've fished yet. I'm loving the EWG hook on these things. The one thing I've noticed most is the bass can't seem to "throw" these jigs as easy as others. I've fished a lot of different brands over my 30+ years of bass fishing and these jigs are the best yet. Quote

BassHunter69 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 oh i forgot the chatterbait which is a jig and spinner combo type going on Quote
BassHunter69 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 ok whats the best jig for use in brush piles or timber? Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 Depends on what you're wanting to do with your jigs.If you're looking to add your own skirts or use the jig for shakey/soft plastic uses, I'd go with the titleshot jighead from fin-tech lures. www.jigfish.com If you're just starting to jig fish, get some of these with some *** from www.*.com and match the jighead color to the color soft plastic you wanna fish to the best of your ability. This will help you learn jigs much easier than traditional jig&pigs. If you are just looking for good brands of jigs, I'd stay away from anything made by strike king or booyah simply because I don't find the quality of hook, skirt, and head design that I think is necessary in my jig fishing. Micromunch and Tru Tungston make great skirted jigs. Micromunch is one of the site sponsors, so I try to stick with his products. I LOVE the Mann's stone jig head design but I despise their skirts. I haven't tried the KaRu line of jigs yet, but I have one at the house that he sent me that I'm going to put through the ropes. It looks like it should be a quality product. I also want to try the MegaStrike evo jig. I haven't tried the JigX line up and probably won't simply because I don't want to learn how to tie a new knot. Really, jigs are more specifically designed than people think. There are different head designs for stand up, shakey, grass, timber, rocks, swimming, and even skipping. Narrow it down some and you should be able to work it down to two or 3 brands to try. you are missing out on not trying the jig x...that knot is easy once you tie it 2 or 3 times.I wouldn't be surprise though the 3 jigs i tossed from bad hooks were probably a booya or strike king. Quote
Lightninrod Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 AT: A new knot is not necessary unless you're using only the Palomar knot. You just run your line through the nylon insert that runs through the jig's body and then run your line through the line tie and tie whatever knot you like with the exception of the Palomar. Bassboy15 Posted August 27, 2007 Author Posted August 27, 2007 I'm going to try some of GMANS jigs now, whats your all fav. trailer? Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 28, 2007 Super User Posted August 28, 2007 I prefer Producto craws or Larew craws for trailers until we hit the cold water period up here (late Sept-October), then I switch to Uncle Josh pork. I don't think you can ever go wrong with a black jig and a black craw, but my favorite twist on black is to have emarald green flake in both the skirt and craw. Larew makes a black/green flake craw I beleive. Producto used to but has discontinued that color. My #1 craw so far this year has been Producto Junebug/with blue glitter claw. Jet Black has been real close and green pumpkin has worked well with the black/green skirt too. Quote
justfishin Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I have been flippin Bigmouth Jigs, Oldham Jigs and War Eagle jigs for a long time. I really like the War Eagles for flippin. I think the KaRu jig I have is going to be a awesome jig for pitchin and swimmin. You guys need to check them out.I have not used them yet but, I received KaRus' jig in the mail the other day and I was real impressed with the craftmenship. Great hook style, great weed guard and the strand count was just right. I am sure they will be great. As far as trailers I have used Zoom Super Chunks for a lot of years. 85% of the time I throw a black & blue jig and I usually tip it with Zoom Flippin Blue or Sapphire. It just works for me and I throw jigs more than any other bait. I tie my own hair jigs for smallies in only three colors, Deer hair or Fox Squirrel Hair in brown & orange, black and green, and blue & white. I always use Uncle Josh 101 pork frogs on my hair jigs in winter. Quote
BassHunter69 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 right now ibe only got one foot ball jig i aint going in no timber with it ;D i'd have to be to do that Quote
