Eric 26 Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I’m curious what your thoughts are on this? I heard yesterday Mike Tyson is going to box Jake Paul on July 20th, anybody going to watch? Tyson will be 58 and Paul will be 27. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 8, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 8, 2024 I have no thoughts. I don’t know who Jake Paul is, never heard of him. It’s obviously a made for tv way for this Paul guy to get some attention to further whatever he thinks he is, and Tyson probably feels he’s been forgotten and needs the money. Mike 4 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I think it’s a money grab for both. I would however like to see tyson knock him out just for old times sake. I’ll watch the YouTube clip of that happens 5 Quote

GReb Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Everything the Paul brothers do is a money grab but both are very talented. I’d much rather Jake fight someone relevant in their prime. PPV boxing is dead though. Only a few names sell and Tyson will always be one that does. 3 Quote

Mike Then you haven't paid any attention to boxing or MMA in the past 3-4 years. He started as a youtuber and trained his way into the sport. He certainly doesn't need visiblity. Then again, who hasn't heard of mike tyson. Watching Tyson's training video on ESPN, he certainly looks like someone I don't want to fight no matter how old he gets. 4 Quote

I’ve been a boxing fan since the mid ‘60’s when I competed myself in the junior ranks, but don’t really follow it anymore. I know MMA is popular all over the country but that’s about it. When I first saw a match I thought it was just a new twist to the actual “boxing” of old tying to regain its lost appeal and popularity. Yes, before you say it I’m just an old fashioned purist. You can guess who my money is on 😃 Mike 2 Quote
throttleplate Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 Who doesnt like watchin dudes, woman and whatever you call yourself beat each other in the head repeatedly rocking your brain all over the place and then face plant into the floor of the ring. I like jake paul, he has a documentary out about how he got into boxing stemming from his youtube channel. It was a good watch. 1 Quote
Solution TcRoc Posted March 8, 2024 Solution Posted March 8, 2024 Would love to see Tyson knock him out.. watching Tyson in his prime was awesome.. he was a beast back than. Money grab yes but hopefully they go toe to toe and fight.. not dance around exhibition match kissing .😂 5 Quote
Eric 26 Posted March 8, 2024 Author Posted March 8, 2024 @TcRoc Unfortunately I heard this afternoon on my local sports show this is going to be an exhibition☹️ I’m hoping they’re wrong. Quote
Woody B Posted March 8, 2024 Posted March 8, 2024 I read somewhere a while back that Tyson had "demons" and training for a fight helped keep him out of trouble. If this is the case kudos to him for figuring out something to keep his time and mind occupied. I wonder what they're getting paid. I used to box. I'd fight either one of them for......a million bucks. I've had my butt whooped for free it would be nice to get paid to take a beating. 2 Quote

Eric 26 Posted March 9, 2024 Author Posted March 9, 2024 @Woody B I’m not going to lie I’m not currently or ever have been a fighter in any sense of the word and kudos to both you and @Mike L and any others on here who do or have participated in ANY way shape or form but look up some current videos of Mike Tyson training and I think a million dollars would basically be for medical bills. @throttleplate And now he’s making a big dollars selling “edibles” shaped like ears🤪 One more thing to add, obviously with the upcoming event my local sports radio shows are talking about Mike Tyson as an interview and everyone says the same thing which is he’s articulate and one of the nicest most gentle athlete (their words) they’ve ever been around. One host shared a story that after he interviewed him Tyson signed a pair of boxing gloves for him and his brother even though he was under contract with another brand and was told by his manager he shouldn’t do it but Tyson insisted the host should have them autographed. 3 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 9, 2024 Super User Posted March 9, 2024 Mom and Dad were huge boxing fans, I still remember watching Ali vs Frazier. This bout bout between Tyson and Paul ain't a fight, just entertainment. BUT there's a chance someone could get bit, you got your listening ears on ? 😁 4 Quote

Super User Bird Posted March 9, 2024 Super User Posted March 9, 2024 I get the picking but Tyson in his prime was quite the force, perhaps the most feared but to his defense, we ate pig ears growing up. 1 Quote

Eric 26 Posted March 9, 2024 Author Posted March 9, 2024 @Mike L According to our local sports radio shows Holyfield is no longer angry about it either. Maybe he gets a cut of Mike Tyson’s business 😉 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 9, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2024 It’s an exhibition fight so it’ll be a dud. Neither are hurting for money just looking for a little extra cash. 2 Quote
cheezyridr Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 back in the day, i loved tyson because he was all business. no show boating, he came, he defeated someone, he went home. no apollo creed shenanigans, just doin what he came to do. if you showed up 5 minutes late to a fight, only thing you saw was an empty ring. 3 Quote

Doesn't really make a difference as far as quality of fight, neither guy wants to lose. 2 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 9, 2024 Super User Posted March 9, 2024 They always hype these “shows” up and then the night of the fight comes and goes and I’m like; “oh yeah, there was a fight last night”. I guess it goes to show how much it interests me. Quote
NavyToad Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 I don’t care why they’re fighting. Of course it about money, promotion, legacy etc… I love Tyson in spite of whatever anyone says and I want Tyson to knock him out - out of boxing! I won’t pay to watch it, but if it’s free on Netflix I’ll watch. 1 Quote
