Black Bass Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 If you're only going to have one spinning reel for bass fishing, which Pflueger President would you get? The choices are 730X, 115/6, 9.1 oz, or the 735X, 145/8, 11.2 oz. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted December 12, 2006 Super User Posted December 12, 2006 i would get the bigger one.i would also buy a medalist instead. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I have a 735X on a 6'6" St Croix Premier Med Action/fast tip I spool it iwth either 6 or 8 # test and it is one great reel for bass fishing Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 13, 2006 Super User Posted December 13, 2006 I have a 6735 on a 7' M BPS Extreme rod, spooled with 8lb Trilene XL, I also use 10lb Spiderwire Stealth Braid on it with the spare spool. This is my Senko, Fluke,Trickworm, set up. Casts those weightless lures a mile, no line twist. I have fished the living heck out of this combo for 2 seasons, brought in a fair number of 4,5,and 6lber's and is still like new. I also have a 6730 on a 6'8" ML BPS Extreme rod spooled with 6lb Trilene sensation, this is my drop shot set up, have not really used it much in the season and 1/2 I have had it, but the smaller reel cast's well and I haev no reason to think it would not give as good as service as the bigger with more use. Guest the_muddy_man Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Hey when it comes to Pflueger Equipment Dodgeguy knows his stuff he has always given me the best advice Quote
Black Bass Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Hey Dodgeguy, Why the Medalist over the President? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted December 13, 2006 Super User Posted December 13, 2006 president has a graphite frame.i hate graphite frames because they flex.medalist is aluminum and won't flex.i have broken necks on graphite framed spinning reels. Quote
Black Bass Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 Thanks Dodgeguy. I'll include it as part of the order I'm placing today. Boy the bait monkey is doing cartwheels and laughing hysterically. My excuse-It's Christmas! Quote
JT Bagwell Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I use both the President and the Medalist and while I prefer the Medalist, I have not had any trouble with either of them. The best advice I would give would be to evaluate what you really need. Sometimes bigger is better, but it isn't usually the case when it comes to fishing gear. I use the 6030 Medalist (6730 President) for most applications. It is light and makes fishing with it all day a breeze. Keep your eye out next year for a sweet new spinning reel from Pflueger, it is called the Supreme. If it is anything like the Supreme baitcaster you will fall in love right away. Below is a picture. Take Care, JT Bagwell Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted December 17, 2006 Super User Posted December 17, 2006 hey JT,i want one of those supremes!!!!i hear they are around $99.that's amazing for a magnesium framed reel. Quote
