Can you fish a topwater frog with the same rod as a drop shot?

Maybe you could... but why would you?

I just put 5 rods in my boat to go fishing tomorrow and I left a bunch @ home.

Yes for my wife and I, we bank fish and if we break a rod we walk back to the car and break out a spare which has happened twice in 4 years. The Berkley Cherrywood has become my all around rod and she uses the Ugly Stick because she is the one who broke the 2 previous non ugly stick rods.

I have 14 combo's on the boat and there are many occasions that (1) catches all the fish for a given day.

If a certain technique is working, there is no need to reach for something else.

BUT I throw so many different baits, can't imagine a magnum fluke with a 5.0 hook on a medium light rod.

Kidding aside, in a pinch, I’d pick either a MH fast casting rod or Med fast spinning rod for a versatile all around rod. The final determination would depend on cover and bait weights.

Yes.  Most of the time I carry two, a MH baitcaster and MF spinning rod. Oftentimes when I want to travel light I carry only one or the other. I don’t fish any techniques that require hyper specific rods.

I did for years.  2 piece MF Ugly Stik spinning rod.  Then, as someone else said, I found Bass Resource.  I now have over 50 rods and reels and take at least 6 with me even when I go bank fishing.  Needless to say, my wife is not  fan of this forum.  😂

I do it all the time, but I’ve sure got more than one. Many trips I just take one, especially in little kayaks. And as yall probably already know, it’s a spinning rod with a jighead on it. Interchange worm, tiny fluke, or paddle tail on the jighead. They WILL bite one of them

I am rigging 8 rods for Sunday… most I have ever run.

Doesn’t help when it’s been a long time since you’ve fished at a lake. Kinda have no idea what’s going on so you rig everything

This was the setup I used when fishing my first tournament.

Don't plan on going back!

I could "make do" with one rod, but since I already have about 60 or so, I don't reckon I'll be going that route.

My savings account would LOVE it, but, errrr, NO. One rod just wouldn't do it.

My wife, however, has only one.  I had a Kistler made for her in her favorite colors.  It's a 7' LMH/MF spinning rod.  It's a great 'universal' rod.

My wife also only has (1) rod, it's the one I hand her, usually rigged with a beetle spin or nightcrawler.......she actually does well.

Now wait. We talking about owning only one or using only one ?

There was a time when everyone (except maybe Zane Grey) had only one rod.

I grew up with Mitchell 300 on a 7' Berkley TriSport, that I fished jetties, inshore, and bass.

Going back, especially to the 50s, everyone had one rod for everything.  Pretty sure Theodore Gordon dunked worms with his fly rod.

If you lived near trout, it was a fly rod - if you lived in Colorado, probably also had a Colorado reel to also fish newfangled mono with it.

My wife has a LV500 tied to hers, and like yours, does pretty well.  She calls the LV her 'fishie'.

I think she does well because she doesn't overthink fishing the way I do.

I don't think I've only had one rod/reel since I was  a boy. Even as  teenager I had more than one. If I could only have one it would probably be a 2500-3000 size Spinning Reel on a Medium action Rod. Something like an Ugly Stick GX2.

I only own about 16 various set-ups (many thanks to this site) and carry 10 bass rigs in the truck at all times with 2 being creek rods and 3 BFS combos. Going out on a boat I carry 5, usually 3 when in the canoe and 2 when walking creeks or rivers.

Could I get by with 1? Yes but what fun is that.
Although I do feel,,bothered at times about not using the rigs setting at home.

Almost be easier to make do with one bait.  In that case it'd be a frog and a frog rod.

Considering where I live now, mine would be an unweighted 10" or 10.5" ribbontail in Junebug.  Before moving to Florida it would have been a spinnerbait...and they still is a favorite.

My wife never gave me much of a problem.  I never spent money on any other hobby other than a new camera about every 20 years.  Don't smoke or drink so saved a bundle there.   Like you my rod and reel collections are north of 70.

Resurrected thread, but guess I missed the last few posts back then.
