Two firsts, two seconds, a fifth, and now double previous record cap hit.

Worst trade in NFL history?

Even being benched, he had one less TD pass than mahomes and the same amount as NFL mvp Lamar Jackson

Someone will pick him up.  At the very least he is a capable back up option because he is an older, veteran QB, which is desirable in the NFL.  Denver is stuck eating $85 million of his contract though.

You're right, his numbers weren't bad for the full season.  His TD/int ratio was good.  He was playing behind a bad line and on a bad team.  With last year's numbers he would be an upgrade for at least half of the teams in the league.

Yes, maybe.  It depends on what he asks for.  I don't think he'll go to a team to be a backup QB.  For the coming season he has to be paid at least the veterans minimum by the new team (about $1M) and Denver will pay the other $38 not offset.  For the following year/years he will want $40M/yr.  So would he sign a deal for 2 years and $41M?  That's the question.  A team would be foolish to sign him for longer at this stage.  And that's WAY above backup money.

I think the most realistic landing spot would be a team that can contend right now who is also drafting a QB.  Wilson plays 1-2 years as the nominal starter before the draftee comes in.  The raiders and patriots could be good options for that scenario.

edit: I should note that the patriots are not ready to contend, but having a veteran QB on the cheap for 1 year would mean being able to ease your draftee in.  The raiders are closer, and RW would be an upgrade on what they have for sure.  Whether they can get from their draft slot up to get someone is a question.

Bye Bye Russ. Now all we need to do is fire George Paton if he whiffs on this draft.

A bad contract can set a team back for years.

Russ is a great guy but his success came mostly from an excellent defensive unit " the legion of boom "  oh and " beast mode" ........ great team though.

I don't see Denver contending for a while.

You thinking it will be Drew Locke or geno that takes the Seahawks to 2 super bowls?? Now there’s a perspective

No, not at all.  But the rest of the trade?  Ya, Seahawks made BANK!

They needed to, they were in rough shape...

That said, RW was done in seattle.  His time had come to move on anyway and seattle made the most of it for sure!  You're in the about the same place we are (Steelers).  Half decent roster top to bottom, a few standouts, but still need a QB.

This is exactly the sort of argument that takes place when people complain about a quarterback like Prescott, Cousins, or some other "underachieving over paid" signal caller that has never won a super bowl or made it to one.

Complaining about a guy that can carry a team is foolish because there's so many other teams that are in dire need of a higher quality QB.  Drew Locke and Geno Smith are perfect examples.  I could go on and on for about half the teams in the league.

Take what you can get and be grateful you aren't stuck with a dud.  Not everyone can have Patrick Mahomes.

Wilson may have run his course as a competent quality QB but the fact remains is that he won a super bowl and he played in another (that he also should have won).  Seattle fans should be grateful for his tenure and performance there.  Without it, those banners do not even exist.

Cousins is a free agent? He could do some damage in Seattle. Maybe a 1-2 yr deal since he’s already 36

Not yet.  There is a rumor that Atlanta is going to sign him though.  His wife's family lives just outside of Atlanta.

The Vikings want to re-sign him to about a 2 year deal but they are very strapped on the salary cap.  They can probably kiss Jefferson goodbye if Cousins leaves too.  Jefferson has openly stated he wants stability at QB.

I think Atlanta gets either Cousins or Fields(assuming they plan to draft a QB with the 1.01)

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but there aren't any Seattle fans that aren't grateful for what Wilson achieved while with the 'Hawks.  You must be reading a rumor mag or something. LOL

Looks like the Steelers want him at least for a year. His new home is in Pittsburgh.

as a steeler fan, I don’t hate this move. Worst case, you’ve got your backup quarterback situation sorted out for $1m. Best case, he performs at a high level and earns a second contract for 2-3 more years after that.
