QuirkyCarp2000 Posted March 1, 2024 Posted March 1, 2024 I had a white strike king bleeding bitsy jig with a red hook. I rigged a white soft plastic trailer. The plastic and skirt is turning orange, mainly where the contact with the hook is. Does anyone have the same problems and how to fix? 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted March 1, 2024 Super User Posted March 1, 2024 You can't really do anything about color bleed once it starts. Just don't leave your plastic trailers attached to your jigs when not in use. That's also good advice to prevent rusting. But I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt the fish will notice. 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted March 1, 2024 Super User Posted March 1, 2024 Never had this problem with Gama red hooks, but the coating flakes off pretty quickly and ultimately you're left with a gold colored hook. 2 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted March 1, 2024 Super User Posted March 1, 2024 My red coatings also don't last long, but I agree with Bankc that the fish won't care. 2 Quote

I've left salted plastics 9n hooks befire and the hooks start to rust and turn the plastic orange. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 2, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2024 I’ve been using red hooks for certain things for years and never had one fade or bleed. Chip? Yes Mike Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 2, 2024 Super User Posted March 2, 2024 The salt content in most plastics accelerates the rusting process for hooks. So if your having issues you need to remove the plastic for storage. 1 Quote
