GLoomis MossyBack series

I have read the promotional material.  I want a quality rugged spinning rod for bank fishing.  I like the specs on the BSR852 for long casting of Senko's and other soft plastics.  I don't want to spend GLX dollars for a bank fishing rod.

Is anyone out there using a MossyBack series rod?   Like I said the specs are just what I'm looking for but I would like to hear from real people.

According to Loomis it's in between the IMX and GL3 but priced above the IMX... I see it only as a marketing niche' for people with a bunch of IMX and GLX wanting to try something new.  

For my money, I'll stick with IMX... better and cheaper- straight from the source. ( Loomis)

It's the taper and xtra fast action that attraced me.

for bank fishing I want a long 7' rod that has a quick tip to get max casting distance but brings the power curve into the hook set quickly.

I don't think it is a gimmick.  I think it is the next step in Loomis and other companies getting more and more situation specific with their designs.

I generally go with standard models myself, but this is a rod that is being purchased for a specific application.

I was hoping some BR.comers had actual experience with the seires.

I own the DSR822 drop shot rod and I think it is the same series blank as the mossy back.  I also own the BSR852 but it is a GLX.  I love both rods and the characteristics of the BSR852 would suit what you are looking for-

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..   Looks Like I'm going to have to get one and be the field tester for the forum.  Oh well, lets see.  First Christmas, then Lake Fork in March, then my son's wedding in July.  Looks like I'll have the rod sometime before between the summer of '07 and when hell freezes over

Fatfishfarmer has the GLX version and it is on it' way to me as we speak.

Sorry, someone else will have to field test the mossyback series.

hell yeah you got the BSR852 GLX from Fatfish! I got mine from him as well- the rod is outstanding you will love it- I am gunna put my steez 2500 on it when I see the reel- should get it Friday. I'll keep everyone posted on what I think of the combo-

OUtstanding outfit.  I can't imagine a better match.  I think we are pretty familiar with the loomis rods, but the steez is the new #1 contender for greatest spinning reel. I would love to hear how it performs for you.  

I prefer daiwa baitcasters because I like the "feel" less silky smooth than the shimano but more communicative in a precision crafted way.

Sort of like a cadilac v. a BMW

I wonder if that transfers to spining reels as well?

I'll be pairing my BSR852 GLX with a stradic but may want to go "ultra" with the steez or stella.  I'm becoming more and more enamored of bank fishing and the casting distance of this combo is probably unbeatable.

I'm curious as to what line you are choosing.

Too late for this now but I didn't mean the mossyback was a gimmick... just that the IMX was a better rod at a slightly lower price, as stated by Loomis.

The fact is Flechero, is that you are absolutely correct.  Why would anyone pay more for a mossyback over an IMX?!  They look purdy, but it's what is inside that counts, and I want the higher modulous, higher strain IMX.  

Avid- I've got your new rods twin, the BCR852.  I keep 8 or 10lb fluoro on it and it handles all my light casting needs.  This rod is so sensitive it dam near hurts my fingers!

Up here in Idaho the water is gin-clear as they say except for some of the spring and I fish from a boat most of the time, this makes my line choice 6lb test and flourocarbon and I really like the seagar invisx- good stuff. Up here it is almost mandatory to fish lite lines and flouro with plastics- most of the time anyway.

It was the specs that I wanted the IMX modulus is no doubt better in sensativity than the proprietary blend of glx3 and imx.  but there is alot more to a quality rod than its graphite modulus rating.  The way it was designed and constructed can make all the difference.  

I misspoke about the gimmick thing, but I do not automatically consider it "inferior" to an IMX.  For specific applications the mossy back MAY perform better.

Anyway, for me at least, it's a moot point.

Duh...I guess I didn't consider that you had decided on an action/power, and then were looking at your choices in series next.  Well, regardless, your decision was a good one   .  It is never a bad thing to get the best  8-).  Let us know how she performs!

Well, I got the rod today.  Georgeous, light as a feather, nice snappy tip with plenty of butt.  Love those recoil guides.  It was so cool to look down the shaft through the guides and see them line up perfectly. Impeccable rod.  I have no doubt that it will exceed my expectations.

I put RW's stradic on it and it needed a little counter weight to balance it out.

Now it feels even lighter.  I was tossing jerkbaits into the pool.  didn't land anything but sure had fun trying.

Definitly want to hear more about that steez.  I like the specs of their large spool model very much.
