Macropterus Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 I received these hooks in a Lucky Tackle Box, and I can’t figure out what they could be used for. If I screw them into a soft bait, I’m sure they would tear out with any sort of pressure from a fish. They seem unnecessarily complicated and weak to use as a trailer hook, but maybe? 3 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 What else came in the box? That may indicate what they are for Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 21, 2024 Super User Posted February 21, 2024 Is there even an eye for a line tie? It doesn't look like it. If there is, then it looks like an unnecessarily complicated way to make a texas rig. 1 Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 21, 2024 Super User Posted February 21, 2024 Nothing on TW website for that style of hook. google lens comes up short too on both the full pack and even the brand name. 1 Quote
Fishingmickey Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Cheap garbage filler for Lucky tackle box to inflate the worth of their box and include it as an item? FM 5 Quote

FM You are way off base. This is a LTB EXCLUSIVE. Calling it a cheap garbage filler is just mean. Eagle Lures is a well known player in the USDM fishing industry, jeez. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted February 21, 2024 Super User Posted February 21, 2024 LTB (and MTB) used to put fancy cards in the box with all kinds of information about everything in there. Aside.... I sort of miss the LTB vs MTB battles... though I'd wager that Glenn doesn't Quote

You’ve got me thinking that maybe they are meant to be threaded through the plastic and onto the shank and used as a trailer hook. 2 hours ago, casts_by_fly said: Is there even an eye for a line tie? You could be right. I uploaded the picture of the hooks to ChatGPT and ask it what they are used for. This is the response. The hooks in the image you've provided are designed for a specific type of fishing where the eye of the hook is not needed. These could be intended for use with certain types of lure systems where the line is attached directly to the lure or through a different mechanism that connects to these hooks. Some fishing setups use a snap or swivel that attaches to a small hole or a slot in the hook itself, rather than using a traditional knotted line around an eye. Another possibility is that these hooks are designed to be snelled directly to the fishing line, which involves a series of knots that secure the line to the hook shank. Using a snell knot would kind of make sense… maybe? 🤷♂️ 1 Quote

Still an inelegant solution to a problem that doesn’t exist 2 Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 I know exactly what these hooks are used for; absolutely nothing. 2 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 We really shouldn't mock the LTB, MTB and Monster Bass boxes. I imagine they got a lot of kids interested in fishing and also got people to try new lures they otherwise never would have tried. I always thought the concept was cool but I have more than enough lures to keep me busy. 1 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 My 1st impression was to tie it with a snell knot and add a roe bag to salmon and steelhead Quote
JediAmoeba Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Looking at it I think it is so you can snell the hook and then feed a soft plastic up the hook and twist it on the keeper so there is no knot in front of the hook to snag on things. Totally unnecessary if that's the case. Quote
Macropterus Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 I got the LTB subscription as a gift, and my impression so far is that it’s more like a challenge to catch fish on certain lures than actual value for the money. 1 Quote
RRocket Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 Looks like a trailer hook? Instead of a trailer hook with eye and plastic, this just spins onto the other hook. 1 Quote

Solution waymont Posted February 22, 2024 Solution Posted February 22, 2024 Those hooks are for screwing up the butt of a wooden frog bait you have to carve yourself. Quote
