jomatty Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 i was just curious how much mono line you guys are using these days. i have almost completely stopped using it and am not sure if it is good or not. the last hold out was my cranking rod but even that is now spooled with floro. im wondering how many of you guys are using mono with jigs as well. i use either braid or a hybrid type line but when i read of guys like denny brauer using mono it makes me wonder. so what are you guys using mono for and what do you like better about it compared to some of the hybrids, floros, and braids. matt Quote
Chris Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 I have one rod that has braid the other 20 have mono. I have one flipping stick with braid and two with mono. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted December 9, 2006 Super User Posted December 9, 2006 Trilene XL is still the best handling line out there. It's all I use on spinning reels. I don't care how many ball-bearing, twist-busting, dingle-scheafers your spinning reel has, it still twists your line. XL will recover from twist the best and cast the easiest. On my baitcasters I use mostly flouro, but XL still gets the nod for topwaters, spinnerbaits and shallow cranks. For me, flouro sinks a bit too much for these applications. For all plastics and jigs, medium to deep cranks, jerkbaits and for deep spinnerbaiting, I like flouro better. This is what works for me. Your results may vary. Good luck, GK Quote
jdw174 Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Haven't touched a spool of mono in years (ever since Bagley began importing SilverThread co-polymer). Currently have two reels spooled with braid...all the rest have one version or the other of SilverThread, from 10-17lb. Quote
0119 Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 I dont use anything but mono. Mostly Sufix Elite or Tritanium. I try and try to like braid, but cant find a thing to like about it. Quote
Bud Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 I use Sunline Defier on BC Yo-zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft on all spinning Reels Quote
Craw Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I still use mono, Berkley and Stren. I'm used to how these brands perform for different techniques and I feel that's the most important thing. I truly believe that other lines have advantages that make them better suited for certain applications but it's all in what you get used to. Quote

Which brand of spinning reels has integrated dingle-Scheafers as part of their design ? ;D I liked Sufix siege, but wish I could buy it in bulk spools. I think I am going back to Ande Back country saltwater flats line. It worked rather well in freshwater for me. Ivan Quote
volpster31 Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 like jdw174, i basically use silver thread exclusively. i just cant find a mono that i like since using silver thread... Quote
Guest avid Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I'm using braid for just about everything. when I switch away from it for any reason I start losing fish. I will use a mono leader for shock purposes and concealment, but power pro is pretty much my go to line. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 10, 2006 Super User Posted December 10, 2006 I'm using a lot of mono line these days, as backing for all my braided line : Well, at least I still have a use for it. Roger Quote
justfishin Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Mono Baitcaster--- Big Game, Dura Tuf, Spinning--- Silve Thread or Super Silver Thread. Quote
Greg Harris Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I don't use mono, but use line a lot like it. I use Triple-Fish camo perlon. Perlon is like mono, but it restores itself after being streched. I use 20# perlon for jigs. The only thing I use fluro for is on my spinning reel, and sometimes for senko's and finesse jigs. Quote

Papa_Tom Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 PowerPro on one rig for swimming jigs. Big Game on the other baitcasters, some other mono on lighter tackle reels. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 13, 2006 Super User Posted December 13, 2006 I've been using PLine Flouroclear. I think it is a coated mono. It has been an excelent line for me. Quote
