onenutinthewater Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 2019 Daiwa Morethan has gone "geary" on me. Does anyone know what will be a direct fit for new main and pinion? Quote
swhit140 Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 It could just need some service/lubrication before buying parts for a reel, unless you already disassembled and know what the issue is. Just a suggestion for you. Quote
newapti5 Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 I would check the bearings first. Oftentimes the "geary" feeling is not from gears. If it's a gear problem, plat from Japan is a great source for parts. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 20, 2024 Super User Posted February 20, 2024 Check the pinion support bearing. It's generally not the gear set. 2 Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted February 21, 2024 Super User Posted February 21, 2024 The Morethan shared gears /w the steez A. The first rendition of their duralumin gears were incredibly smooth but were very susceptible to premature wear in the main gear from hard hooksets, for me at least. I got a few years out of them and the steez svtw before I began replacing them. I replaced all my steez A and morethan /w the USDM Zillion G gear set. TackleTrap usually has them in stock or you get source from Daiwa. Not that expensive. Also, the lower pinion bearing on Daiwas isn't , usually, an issue like a shimano, but I've had it a couple times. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted February 21, 2024 Super User Posted February 21, 2024 And if it's not the bearing, try cleaning and lubing it with some Cal's drag grease or some other thick grease. That usually takes care of it. These reels aren't high speed devices, so you don't really need a lightweight grease. Quote
onenutinthewater Posted February 21, 2024 Author Posted February 21, 2024 I cleaned and lubed with no change. Rather than ruin it myself trying to replace parts any recommendations to send it for repair? Quote
waymont Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Get a set of Steez A gears from Daiwa. perfect fit. Quote

I just sent him a Curado 150MGL that had "geariness" and Mike diagnosed and fixed it. It was a rusty pinion bearing, and he replaced it with a Boca ceramic bearing and it's quiet again. 1 Quote
