My dad grew up pretty poor for the first decade or so of his life. He said they were the last in our town to get indoor plumbing. This was the late 50’s early 60’s.

if you're following the news the past couple days, i think we are clearly seeing it's already being abused, and we have every reason to be concerned.

the sad thing is, you can't put the genie back in the bottle.  i would love to go right on back to 1980 when we had no cell phones,  no internet, no ai,  and people knew how to disagree without hating each other for it. sure those things have advantages,  but i'm not sure those advantages are worth what it's costing us as a species.

Every time anyone brings this up I think about the movie Terminator.

Co-worker is former military, served in the 1990's...tells an interesting and hilarious story of a software that was being developed.

Of course, military guys being military guys, someone had the bright idea of turning on this new software on the exact date when SkyNet was turned on in the Terminator films (August something in 1997).

HA!

The potential for abuse of pretty much any technology is concerning.  George Orwell wrote in 1984 about propaganda constantly fed to the proles through the telescreens which were always spying on them.  Big Brother was always watching them.

Today we pretty much all carry a portable tracker with us 24/7 in the form of a cell phone. Is Big Brother always watching us?

Misuse of technology for evil ends is nothing new.
