I found this one walking around a pond today.  There is no writing on it, so I suspect it is a Chinese knockoff of something, but maybe a sticker came off the lure after being in the pond at least since winter set in (ice went out this week).

Any idea what lure it is?

Believe your hunch is right. There’s a slew of baits under various brand names online that all appear to be made by the same Chinese manufacturer that look exactly like it, though I haven’t seen that exact color, just similar ones with the row of spots down the sides. Guessing it’s one of those.

Huh.  I never would have guessed that.  I've never seen a fully painted lure be used as a bait float like that.

Very popular thing in the catfishing world, especially for targeting big blues. The rattle and colors is supposed to help call them in. I know that I only rigged 1 rod with a rattle the last 2 trips we went last fall and probably 75% of the fish we caught hit that rod. One of my rattles has some pretty serious scratches from blues chomping it, so they're for sure attracted to it.
