twofishy4u Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 So I'd say 95% of my builds have been spinning rods. I fish a small river for smallies and get the occasional pike. We toss a ton of small jerk/twitch baits. Mainly husky jerk #10's. I'd love to build a nice baitcasting rod for this. I'll also take suggestions on reels and line, right now all my baitcasting stuff is for 1/2 ounce and up and running 40lb braid and higher. Thing is most guys I see from using the 'search' function build rods for this on a mod fast. In spinning I prefer fast and even ex-fast I get a nice twitch of the bait. Thoughts here. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 10, 2024 Posted February 10, 2024 Rodgeeks c4 med/xfast. Fwiw I like spinning tackle for jerkbaits. Long casts, easy to throw into the wind, light line 1 Quote

Waiting for this exact blank to be delivered for my first build. 😎👍 Going to be a baitcaster though, with an American Tackle G2 reel seat/handle, Fuji K concept guide train, a Shimano Curado MGL 150 and 12# Sunline Sniper flouro. twofishy4u Posted February 10, 2024 Author Posted February 10, 2024 extra fast for this? It'll load up OK with an hj10? I guess I love my 6'10" exfast rx6 bet never thought of using a blank like that for a baitcasting setup. Most of my casting will be done side armed if that matters Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 I build for the conditions, the position and way you are fishing, I fish better when my presentation can stay similar no matter the conditions. My selection for a jerk bait blank would change depending on what I'm fishing from, a high deck like a multi-species boat would be different than if I was fishing out of the bottom of a jon boat, kayak, canoe, or from shore because the distance from the water is different, the position in relation to the water and interferences are different. Fishing from a lund 1875 impact. Usually casting to my left side, side arm casting to the bank. My medium moderate Fenwick cast nice but doesn't work a jerkbait well at all. I want something 6'6-7' for sure. I'm open to ideas. Blank costs isn't a big deal other than not dealing with NFC. Phenix has a bass recon blank in ML fast which could possibly work. PHXC683MLB Can't find any real data anywhere on this thing. Point blank 7'light or 7'ml is an option too? Or building on a spinning blank like the revelation 6'8" mxf or another 6'10 rx6 in m/xf??? Lead Head Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 If Point Blank is an option, look hard into them. In my little experience with them they are... impressive. I believe @Mick D has experience with the blanks you mentioned. Quote
twofishy4u Posted February 11, 2024 Author Posted February 11, 2024 They are, Point blank that is. Just seeing what guys are using. With there ccs data I am wondering if they will actually cast a 3/8 three treple jerkbait well??? Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 I like my St. Croix 3C68MXF for jerkbaits, soft, XF tip, Rainshadow cloned them years later, but I prefer the original, no need to go to a high modulus blank for this, one reason is they rarely get as nice a tip, usually stiffer. The Point Blank use chart suggests the PB69MLXF, or the PB70MF for your application. Quote
