You got specific, but I'll only give you a partially specific answer. For buzzbaits I use a 7' medium-heavy, moderate-to-fast action rod, with a 6.3:1 reel. I like the length for casting and for steering the bait. I like the moderate action to prevent pulling the bait away from the fish before he gets it all the way in his mouth. If braid is your line choice, you may want stay away from a fast action. But that's just my opinion. I like the 6.3:1 better than a 7:1 for buzzbaits. A buzzbait is not a high speed bait, so I find the 7:1 reel a bit much.

As far as brands go, just stick with a mainstream manufacturer. Less problems with parts for reels and warranty service for rods if you go with established brands. Every body has their favorites, and will give you valid reasons for their choices. All I'll say is buy the best you can afford. Or, the best you can justify, if money is no object.

Would I like the have Steez mounted on a GLX? You betcha. Will I be buying this rig? Not a chance.

Beware, buying gear is almost as much fun as using it. The baitmonkey is always ready, willing and able to take you for a ride.

Good luck,

GK

If I had to throw away all my rods and reels and could only keep one set up. It would be the G-Loomis MBR 843C GLX and Shimano CL200 Calais. I hope this answers your question.

I am a finesse fanatic with light lines- so if I were faced with one outfit it would be my Loomis GLX BSR852 Spinning rod paired with my FUEGO 3000 spinning reel- up here in Idaho/Oregon I use this 90% of the time and fair pretty well in my club tourneys.

All the answers will be pretty subjective, but right now it would be my CBR845 paired with a Daiwa Pixy.  I love all my combos almost equally, but really bonded with that setup throwing crankbaits all last season.

The one you are the most comfortable fishing with and the right one for the technique and situation you are fishing in. You can own a $1000.00 rod and if it doesn't meet these three criteria it isn't worth 10 bucks. Just my opinion again.

There is no "best," just "favorite."

My nominee is this package:  G.Loomis GLX PR844C/ Shimano Calais CL200ASV

kbkindle,

Don't know if your profile age is correct.

IMPO the "absolute best bassrod and reel" is the one that feels the lightest and most balanced in my hands. All of my rigs are custom built to the reel's weight, and the dimensions of my arm and hand. After a 8 hr. day on the water, the last thing I want is a rig that's feeling heavy and makes my arm and hand tired..

Just my .02¢

kb here reelmech   yes the age is correct, i dont tourney fish any more cant stand that much   we have local t's  on wed night and sunday morning that last only about4-5 hrs i still can handle these  being retiered  i get to fish about 3-4 days a week there are two lakes that run through our town   there not big about 1600acers each   i live about a 1/2 block away from on boat launch the other is about 2 miles away.  just love to top water fish and i do throw a buzzbait  all seasonjust dont know what rod to buy in what length or action  i have a few st croix rods i spinnerbait and crank with but i like the 5'6" pistol grip type we have a lot of trees along bank that hang over and boat docks and boat piers that you have to fish under and i can do it better with a short rod.  i also like to parallel along sea walls  and rock banks i guess a 6-6 med with a fast tip with braid?   kb

kbkindle,

I use to buzz a lot with my 5'6" med fast pistol grip. But have switched to my 6' medhvy fast straight grip, and have had better success with less wrist strain. I'm more able to snap cast the rod better for distance casting than with the pistol, also the fight after the hook set is easier when I can place the grip against my forearm for support, I use it much like an extension of my arm. I also use a 6' rod under trees by pitching my spinnerbaits a lot (got into that technique using spinner jigs years ago).

Quantum Energy PTs w/ a St. Croix 7' MH. 7:1 gear ratio. I like the PTs because it won't corrode. It's made for saltwater, but is just like the freshwater energy but it won't rust.
