Justin Collier Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Does anyone use twitch baits? I have never tried them. My favorite way to catch bass is jerkbaits so I figured I would give this lure a try. How effective are they compaired to a floating jerk bait. 1 Quote
WaskaCrank12 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I am curious about this as well. I have never used them yet they seem to be rising in popularity and have been showcased recently on several pods/YouTube vids. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted February 7, 2024 Super User Posted February 7, 2024 By " twitch" bait, do you mean long minnow baits like a Rapala or Smithwick Rogue? 2 Quote

waymont Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I used to crush bass and pike with a Rapala bait called the Sub Walk that is in this category. I haven't fished it in a few years though. 3 Quote
WaskaCrank12 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 This is one of the "twitch baits" that has been mentioned on the pods/YouTube. Is this the type of bait you were wondering about @Justin Collier ? 1 Quote

I have been (self) designated as the National Subwalk disposal center. Please send any units directly to me Thank you in advance. 🤪 A-Jay 2 8 Quote

I've had great days with those when nothing else was working I have had some success with the Rapala Twichins - mullet and minnow, and also Iike the Yo-Zuris I give them a fan cast or two right after my spooks go quiet. I also have a patience problem :) 1 Quote

Besides getting bites for me, it's one of the very few baits (whole schools of) Brown Bass will follow all the way to the boat. Great fish locator. #mossbackshiner A-Jay 2 Quote

Justin Collier Posted February 8, 2024 Author Posted February 8, 2024 Was wondering. The one Im going to try is a savage gear twitch reaper. Usually if I fish sub surface I'll use a floating jerk bait and just tune it to where I want it. But thought this type of lure might be fun. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 8, 2024 Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2024 What setup are you using them on @A-Jay? I've got a couple Subwalks and have got a few bites but have issues making them walk consistently. I was using my jerkbait rod with 10lb mono and just trying to twitch it similar to fishing a jerkbait. Still got bit, but I felt like I wasn't getting the full potential out of the bait. Maybe a spinning rod with braid to a leader might have been better. 2 Quote

Maybe a spinning rod with braid to a leader might have been better. I fish it both on spinning gear & casting gear. Both Medium sticks. So pick your poison. Pretty much my standard jerkbait gear. The secret sauce for me with this bait is the speed at which it's fished and where. (I know, not big news but hear me out) Seems best when I fish it super slow, with long pauses, which allows it to really accentuate that little shimmy/roll at rest. Early/late season cooler water time. Alternatively, I'll go pretty fast with like a nano-second of a pause. This requires quite a bit of angler effort but can be the deal. The other thing is I can fish it in super skinny water a LONG way from my rig, without having it gum up with spooge 3 feet into the cast. Over the tops of 2 feet of open water over dense weeds at low light is a tricky deal too. I do Like Mono vs FC for the shallowest water. A mono leader on spinning gear is good - make it long, like 20 feet long. Change the hooks and ditch the feathered tail treble, slows the bait unnecessarily. I talk smack about this bait all the time but I don't recall ever getting anything on video. (but you might notice I don't sell them). Might need to fix that. Good Luck A-Jay 1 1 Quote
Reel Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Make that four. I've been using twitch bait ever since Mirrolure invented them... and that's a very, very long time ago. 2 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted February 8, 2024 Super User Posted February 8, 2024 Y'all got some cute little Twitch baits. Go big or go home.😁 1 Quote
Justin Collier Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 I will throw it on a medium stick. With a high speed reel. I generally throw my jerks on 12 pound fluorocarbon. Get great results. I fish alot of docks with floating jerkbaits in the summer get good results also anytime I know they are feeding on shad. Quote
