Sabo Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Hello all, I have not been on here in a while. I am looking for suggestions for buying bulk mono that has low memory and budget friendly. I am not much of a fluoro guy and I don't like leader knots so I still use a lot of mono. With the economy the way it is, and paying for my daughter's wedding, I am kinda pinching pennies LOL I was wondering about the new KastKing Tripolymer and Vicious Ultimate in particular. I have some Trilene Big Game but it is not great for spinning reels and I really don't care for the memory that it gets. TIA for the help fellas!! Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 6, 2024 Super User Posted February 6, 2024 Vicious gets great reviews 13000 yds for $50! 8 lb test Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 6, 2024 Super User Posted February 6, 2024 Soft, low memory mono is either sunline supernatural or suffix elite for me. I use both for a lot of things. I don’t think supernatural comes in bulk but Elite does. 3000 yd spools for about $40 or so depending on pound test. 1 Quote
garroyo130 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Yo Zuri Hybrid is a great budget line. Buy on diameter, not lb test as its underrated. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted February 7, 2024 Super User Posted February 7, 2024 Another vote for both Elite and Yo-Zuri - for the latter, decide what line test you'd want then drop it one...if you'd normally put 10# on, use Yo-Zuri 8#, etc. 1 Quote

OmegaDPW Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I hate to admit it, but I use the Zebco 4lb or 6lb test on my spinning reels from Wal-Mart. Omni-something. It works great for me but the 10lb I tried had a lot of memory. Quote

If you don't treat it, the memory is more than mono or FC as it is a blend of the two, but using this I have no issues. 1 Quote
VolFan Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I like Yozuri but it does have some memory. It is also very very strong stuff so the highest lb test I use it in anymore is 8 i think. I really like Suffix ProMix for an inexpensive mono. It handles great. Quote
greentrout Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Bass Pro Shops Excel -- very good on spinning reels. I use it. Good Fishing 5 Quote
Eric 26 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 @Sabo Although I’ve not used the Kastking tri polymer I’ve been using Kastking monofilament in both red and blue at $11.99 for 600 yards 4 pound test for the past few years with zero issues and zero line changes. I guess I lied the blue has faded a lot faster than I would like but the red is absolutely the same color as the day I spooled it on. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Suffix advance is my go to bulk mono I buy 1200 yard spools. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 7, 2024 Super User Posted February 7, 2024 In bulk spools I have used Sufix Elite and Siege. Elite has been the best far as memory goes. Another good one to take a look at is Runcl on Amazon. I have used the 6lb on spinning tackle and have had no issues. I have also tried a few lines from KastKing and was not impressed. I use what is left for backing. 2 Quote

I gave it what it wanted - the pocket knife, and respooled. Heck I put Big Game on my boys Zebco and we don't have a problem. He loves the bright green color. I've ran it on spinning gear too, but It's not as managable as others. 2 hours ago, greentrout said: Bass Pro Shops Excel -- very good on spinning reels. I use it. rgasr63 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I use the Bass Pro Excel now and it works very good. And here recently I was given some Kastking Destron Mono to try out. The Destron is very thin compared to the Excel mono. And that makes it more manageable. I really have been mostly impressed with it. But I would recommend one thing for it is to purchase it by diameter more than lb test. When the label says 10 lb it is pretty accurate. But 8lb test in the Excel is 12 lb test in the Kastking going by diameter. The Kastking is still more manageable at equivalent diameters. Quote

djhands Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 KastKing Tripolymer is solid line runs a little thinner diameter but I was using 6lb all summer for smallies on my Stella and nrx+. It shines for wacky worms and fuzzy dice since its density is closer to fluorocarbon Quote
Sabo Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 Thanks for all of the suggestions. Gives me hope I will find the right line. 6 hours ago, MN Fisher said: No - but considering it's supplied by Pure Fishing it's probably relabeled Berkley, Stren or Shakespeare . It is?? Last time I was at Bass Pro the excel said made in China. I think all Pure fishing lines are made in USA. Quote

Comparing both side by side, advance is downright wiry. 9 hours ago, Bazoo said: Thanks, I've been wondering about BPS Excel. Anyone else use it? Only in the fluoro. I think it was the KVD fluoro in the BPS excel line. It was 'fine'. Fairly stiff stuff, but again it was the fluoro, not mono. Quote
garroyo130 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Lol OP came looking for a single suggestion but left with about 10 more than he came in with Quote

Fishingmickey Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 I used Berkley XL for years, XL is supposed to stand for extra limp. It's thinner then Big game and it also tests higher then rated but not nearly as much higher then Yozuri Hybrid, Berkley XT or Big game. FM Quote
