I am a Shimano guy &  I have looked at the all new one's but I feel it's hard to beat the Metanium 100 series. I really like the 101 & will get 1 or 2 more.

I’m seriously considering the Shimano Miravel 2000 or 2500 especially at the current prices. I usually take advantage of the BPS trade in but d**n at these prices I feel it makes sense to jump on the JDM prices. Talk me out of taking advantage of the BPS trade in or talk me into the JDM prices. P.S if I’m going to trade in I’m looking at the BPS Johnny Morris Signature Series Reel that retails for $99.99 before trade in and I’m 99.99% sure it’s made by Daiwa if that sways any opinions.

I just have a question. Can you get warranty service buying them overseas?  Or if you break it then you get to keep both pieces?

If you're at the $100 price point, keep doing what you're doing.  The big advantage to JDM, other than price, is they just offer more higher end models and more options.  Take into account free shipping and its a no brainer. Sure, there's no warranty but a good repair shop can make short work of any issue. The only time I've had an issue with a JDM reel was a new Zillion last year. Something weird with the spool tensioner. Digi provided the return shipping label and I upgraded/traded to a Met shallow.

YMMV.

Nope.  Now warranty for JDM stuff.  Also if you break something that's typically only covered under a replacement program and not a warranty although some do use warranties as replacment programs.

May be out of topic, but what is the main advantage of the Conquest over the Aldebaran? I just can't get my head around that reel body!

It depends if you consider this an advantage or not, but the Conquest is heavier.  That means it'll balance better with more rods.  The tolerances are also very tight.  I have shied away from low profile reels the last few years, equivalent round reels are generally heirloom quality and don't cost too much more.  The price difference between an Alde BFS and Conquest BFS is about $65 right now.  When I got my Millionaire CT SV, it was a $40 difference in price between that and the Alphas CT SV.

I ordered the new Metanium DC 71 HG a couple weeks ago from American Legacy Fishing...first DC reel so excited to check it out when it finally arrives.  Also just ordered the new 24 Steez SV TW from Digitaka... would be my first Daiwa reel and first experience buying from Japan so eager to see how it pans out.

I really like the looks of the 24 Steez but just not a fan of Daiwa braking otherwise I would’ve gone that route but I’m too used to the feel and braking of Shimano reels…hence the Metaniums 😎

Nice man - I currently have 4 Metaniums and love them (2 on NRX+ rods: 873 & 844, 1 on an Expride B 72MHG and another on an Orochi XX Braillist).  Also grabbed an Aldebaran this winter for an NRX+ 853 but haven't fished the reel yet.  I recently ordered a Bantam/Destroyer P5 Mark-56 combo and that new Metanium DC 70 for an Orochi XX Flatside Special but both reels and Mark-56 are backordered right now from the shop I bought from.  Recently picked up a Destroyer P5 Dark Sleeper rod and wanted to pair it with this new Steez to give the Megabass/Daiwa combo a try.  I traded in 7 of my older/cheaper combos which were all fairly technique specific so trying to backfill with some bougie gear in the cheapest way possible (waiting for used gear in mint condition go on sale for additional discount and most recently ordering right from Japan).  Pumped for all this sweet new gear - makes me want to throw a punch rig through the ice just typing this out!

I had a new JDM Daiwa Tatula reel I purchased from overseas and was excessively noisy when I fished it the first time on the water. I sent it to Daiwa for warranty and they replaced a couple parts sent it back to me at no cost. I just had to pay for the shipping to them for the repair.

@swhit140 So are you debunking the “No Warranty” if you buy JDM argument 🤔

@swhit140 As a PS to everyone else I realize Daiwa USA doesn’t warranty JDM products 😉

I'll be buying a Certate or 2.  With the c2500's in @ 175g and the c3000 @ 205g they have lost weight 👏

Have you pulled the trigger on this yet? Thinking of trying one. I am also looking at the Shimano Exsence.

Not yet.  Still healing up from a surgery I had a couple weeks ago.  I figure I better make it through physical therapy before buying any new reels.   Yea...Essence and Essence XR are appealing.

I'm not trying to debunk anything, I'm just speaking from my own personal experience.

Did they cover return shipping? Was this like within days of you receiving it I suppose? I just received a 23 Metanium the other day from Asianportal . No problem with the reel, just curious..

I had to return a reel to digitaka because of bad gears.

They emailed me a prepaid return label.

Got a refund a few days later.

That's the only time I ever had an issue.

Well I gave up thinking about it and ordered one from JLS.

I picked an NRX+ 892S for a really good price and needed to figure out the reel. I wasn't expecting to pick up a new rod but couldn't pass it up. I thought about the Exist but I couldn't see paying $240 more for it. I also almost picked up the 902S but the tip was really soft. I can't imagine what the 901s is like. Now I need to decide what to put on 894C I grabbed as part of this deal as well.

Interesting thing.. law of diminishing returns. Always an issue with the super high end stuff.  Looking at the '24 spinning reels, why even go for an Exist/Stella. Unless of course you're leaking $$  Its a great time to be alive isn't it!!!
