btone Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 St. Croix Premier 7’ extra heavy fast spinning rod. I want to use it to throw big swim baits. A baitcaster was recommended to me for that, but I don’t want to learn how to throw one. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 Braid or fluoro/mono? You’re basically talking a light to medium saltwater rod. A 4000 sized reel would be okay with 50 lb braid but if you’re going fluoro/mono then you’ll want a 5000/6000 size for line capacity. 1 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted February 4, 2024 Super User Posted February 4, 2024 I would go with the new Stradic 1 1 Quote

PaulVE64 Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 What is your budget? On 2/4/2024 at 8:05 AM, bulldog1935 said: I would go with the new Stradic You would think that they'd list the line pickup. Gear ratio isnt that important on spinning gear. Quote
cyclops2 Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 I have favorite old Mitchel Reels. I also have many spools pre loaded with different lines, weights and a small brass snap on the end of each spool. All the reels are really light salt water reels. But I can switch the spools as I want to, while fishing. My vest has spaces for 2 spools if I wade. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 My choice would be a 3000 backed with mono and topped with 75 yds of 30# braid. If you really want to stick with mono/fluoro I’d up to a 4000 with a limp, treated line. Going up in size is more about arbor size than line capacity. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 For btone or anyone else that prefers a heavier power spinning rod, I have a nice one listed in the flea market at a deep discount. 1 Quote
