The other day I needed to buy some additional Yak Power cables for my kayak and in order to avoid shipping fees I needed to buy more. The Team Lew’s Pro SP pitching and skipping reel was on sale for $149.

Yes, I realize the ridiculousness of spending $150 to save 20 bucks in shipping. That was the Bait Monkey seeking justification to buy a new reel.

Anyway, I just spooled this up this morning and dialed it in. I have no problem pitching and skipping with my Curados, but I do have to say that this reel both feels and performs better, especially paired with my Bass X rod.

I’ve heard this reel also works great with light baits. Even if that’s not the case, I’m really happy with this purchase.

I have owned a couple of the Lew’s SP and feel they are ok.   I also have a bunch of Daiwa Tatula and Zillion SV reels, and it is no contest.  Those SV reels by Daiwa are amazing.  Skipping, light baits, casting in the wind.  They are awesome!  I really like Lews reels and use quite a few of them still, I just wasn’t impressed with the SP when compared to the Daiwa SV reels.

I used to fish a lot of Lew’s gear, but then migrated to Curado MGL’s, K’s, and DC’s and I really like them.

When I was browsing the other day my intent was to buy a Daiwa, but the Lew’s caught my eye, especially with it being on sale.

Paired with my Bass X, it feels perfectly balanced and paired. It rivals any of my Curado’s paired with my Exprides. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels right.

That’s all that matters.   What feels right to fish with.

Also I’m the same way… “$20 shipping!? No way!   I’ll spend a $100 to save shipping.”  Can’t justify paying for shipping.  Lol.

I justify stuff like that all the time. The item is $150 but you saved $20 in shipping so you really only bought the reel for $130 which is even MORE of a deal. Now you would just be unwise to pass up such a good deal.

In other scenarios this line of thinking is referred to as “girl math”. I of course denounce such stereotypes personally.

In my experience of 36/7 years of life I've lived, "girl math" takes it to the next level with a $10 coupon for a $500+ purse or shoes 😂.

Thankfully my wife is more practical...which is why she is my wife. Only one of us can be certifiably crazy.

It’s great with light baits. 8# fluoro and it holds enough as well.

I can’t skip for beans, but I do know any chance I have is with a Tatula sv. I blew them dang Lew’s up.
