I fished in a 4 hour derby this morning and won. My partner and I caught about 10 bass total. All but 2 of them were 12-14 inch dinks. The other 2 were 4 pounders that ultimately won it for us by less than a pound.

It was very windy, and the bite was difficult. Moving lures did not produce much. The two big fish came on a jig worm along the deeper edge of weeds, 10 minutes apart.

Water temp was 71.5 degrees, north west metro. I agree with @Adrift, still fishing like it’s summer out there.

Congrats!

I finally got back on the water this evening. I’m easing back into it and only spent a hour out there.

I didn’t get a great water temp reading but I’d say somewhere between 60-65 degrees. It was chilly out there and lots of leaves were down.

I picked up a few fish on a t-rig around a some green grass. I didn’t have much time to really put a pattern together but I’m glad I got few in the boat. I did have a little extra excitement, I got a short ride in my kayak from what I assume was a big pike.
Im glad I got out there and I hope a can spend more time on the water next week.
Any tips for finding em as the water gets colder? Down into the 50s and 40s? Follow that green grass? What happens when it’s all gone?

Yep.

When its gone, its time to hang it up lol.

No really though, once I see the water cross the 50 degree mark, that means its done.  Not that you can't catch bass below 50, but it becomes significantly tougher.

Hunting season starts for this guy in early November so whether sub 50 or that gets here first will dictate when my season ends.  And right now its looking like hunting season will arrive first.  I am seeing another string of 80+ degree days here next week.  Never ending summer continues...

Crazy how different the weather is in one state, your talking about summer when there was frost on the windshield for me this morning.

Anybody have any recommendations for shrink wrap south of the metro?

I usually get indoor storage but this year I'm thinking of wrapping her and sticking her outside.

I have a co worker who used Rapid Marine once a few years ago. He did not have any issues or complaints. They have a location in Shakopee. I’m not sure how close that is to you.

If you plan to have it stored on site there this winter, I would check sooner than later. They only have a certain amount of lot space and it filled up quick.

I went for about 4 hours this afternoon/evening and did very good.  19 largemouth and 5 pike, all on fast aggressive moving lures.  There was a weather change this afternoon with a major wind shift, and I timed it right.  The water temps have also dropped since I was last out on Monday into the mid 60's and I think that has started a fall pattern now.  I caught 3 bass over 4 pounds, including my biggest this season, a 21 incher that was nearly 6 pounds.

Any of you MN guys have a current discount code for Omnia Fishing? I’ve already used Pennaz15, but I think it may still work for those of you that haven’t…

Try HELLABASS or Punch Fishing

Got out for a couple hours today. Took the boat out so I got a good water temp reading, right around 59-60 degrees. I got a few on a chatterbait and a jig. Everything was in that 12-14 inch range.

I had the same temps today South of the metro.

Caught a couple strolling but the fish were really hammering the jig in about 10 fow. Weeds are dying but there's still plenty of green if you take the time to look for it.

Sounds like water temps have finally been dropping.  I may be in for the first frost of the season on Monday night.  They are forecasting a low of 31 degrees.

Fished largemouth for a few hours this afternoon. Water temps 54-56 degrees.

Wasted half my day with a spinning rod and a jighead minnow staring at my graph. I know I need to get better at using my electronics, especially if I’m going to fish tournaments but man, I’m not good at it.
Finally picked up a casting rod and got a few with a chatterbait right along the edge of the pads (I think they were holding to some semi green cootail).  Didn’t find anything big, heck I don’t think I’ve caught a bass over 16” this whole October. Maybe the big ones were what I was looking at on the Garmin.

Fished Mille Lacs yesterday and only caught. Fished near shore and shallow reefs and saw nothing.  Saw some fish on side scan in 15 to 25 of water.  The only fish I caught was on a Rapala DT16 near bottom.  The water temperature was 57 I the morning and 59 to 60 in the afternoon.

I went largemouth fishing for about 5 hours today with a friend and the dog.  29 fish total.  19 bass and 10 northern pike.  The water temps have dropped to 55 degrees but the fish were still biting.  Didn't get any giants this time, but plenty of fish in the 3-4 pound range and several 30+ inch northern pike that tried to destroy lures.

I was going to try Mille Lacs today but it's too windy, so plan B was largemouth fishing on a smaller lake with a friend.  Plan B worked out pretty well.  Caught 15 bass and 5 pike in about 4.5 hours.  Most of the fish came on a slow-hopped swim jig, including 4 fish over 4 pounds.  Biggest was a 19.5 incher that was over 5 pounds.  The water has dropped to about 53 degrees and my bass season is now over.  I intend to muskie fish one more time before I hang it up.  Bass fishing was pretty ridiculous the past few weeks.

Interesting day on the water. Water temps started at 47 and warmed up to 50. Fishing was great, I got a bunch of fish around 17” and one 18”. Me being an idiot got in the way of the fishing. I completely blew up my main reel, I recked the one prop I had in the boat, and probably all wrecked the impeller in my motor.

I was able to get out on Saturday and today (Sunday) for about 4 hours each day - Saturday on Lake Reno I only caught one fish - but it was a PB for me - a slightly over 19 inch large mouth with some girth (I have a measuring pad but no scale) - caught it in about 10 feet of water around a dying grass line ----- then today on Lake Minnewaska I caught a number of 15/16 inch small mouth -- then another PB for me with a 19 inch small mouth -- caught it in about 6 feet of water in a rocky/sandy bottom section near a shade/sun line ---- this is only my second year of fishing so it is pretty exciting to catch 2 PB's (one large mouth, one small mouth) on 2 different lakes on back to back days with different gear (rod/reel) and different lures -- hoping to get out next weekend and then will probably winterize the boat
