Super User Munkin Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 Personally if I live to 250 years old I could not use all my lures. That said there are a couple of baits I just have to try this year. 1.Jackal Nagisa= This is a shallow suspending jerkbait that I can't explain? You will just have to watch the YouTube video as to how it works. For the shallow, clear, pressured river I fish it just looks like a winner. 2. 6th Sense Provoke silent= From the description this bait hits all the things I am looking for in a jerbait so I have to at least try some. 3. Rapala creature baits= These just look too good to me so I have to try some. 4. Evergreen JT 95 topwater= Last year this walking bait caught more fish than all other walking baits combined. I only have one so I plan on getting a few more colors. 5 Don Iovino popper= Just like the Evergreen JT this bait was a top producer that I only have one size and color of. Plan on buying 3-6 more in different colors and sizes. 6. Vision 110+ Jr = Trying to find some in FA Wagasaki or whatever is closest to that color? The regular 100 jr in that color just crushed them on some local lakes. Problem was I had so many fish that followed and then turned away? Figured if I can get that bait that runs a little deeper I would catch a lot more fish. Allen 2 Quote
Friggs Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 The one I'm trying this year is a fluke. Never fished one before. I was very successful last year with baits I either never tried or never caught a fish on. Before last year I had never caught fish on a spinnerbait, jig, large worm 10" plus, or a shaky head. And trick worms. Both regular and magnum. These have become a favorite of mine. I caught fish on all of them. In fact a few were my most successful lures. I'm hoping to be successful again with the fluke. I'm thinking it might be one of my best lures of the year. I hope you are successful with your lures you are trying this year. Tight lines. Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 I'm going to put some focus on finesse baits this year- neds and equivalent size/style baits. I've done basically no finesse work the past couple years since I hate spinning rods. A new rod and reel will help with motivation (wanting to play with a new toy) and success will make me want to throw them more. My other is jerkbaits. I started throwing them last year and ended up catching fish early and late in the season. I lost a new PB on one last spring. I know they work, I just never had faith or patience in them. So from ice out to May I'll have one tied on for every trip I leave the house. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 I am bound and determined to catch a bass (any size) on a T-Rig. Besides that - I've got some Ned-heads that Allen made up and I promised to review for him...and Kent sent me some 3" Iovino Reapers that I'll try with various techniques. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 Looking forward to throwing a Baby Bull Shad this Spring and Fall. Also gonna spend some time with the A-rig. I haven’t spent enough time with either bait so I’ll be devoting some outings to those. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 Deps NZ Crawler Jr. Should be fun. 2 Quote
softwateronly Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 I'm trying Japanese this year; Deps Bull flat: 3-3.8" on free rig, 4.8" swimbait hook and free rig Dolive beaver: 3.5" free rig/jig trailer Specific gravity/poop baits: Cover scat and Spinuts 1/2oz finesse scrounger head/ 1/4oz midst head - 3" jerky j and armour shad Rapala snap rap/jigging rap Jackall metal master Little Jack - metal addict 01 I love trying new lures, but really I'm trying to crack the mid day late summer bite. I'm hoping those free rigs/poop baits can add in to shakeyheads and jigs for the 12-18' breaks and that spoons and scroungers can help dial in the open water shad chasers. scott 2 Quote

I should have taken my own as the color looks far better in person. It's sort of a brownish black with clear hologram. Here is another one. Quote
Fishingmickey Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 It looks like it is possessed. Does it have the soul of some kind of Japanese samurai fishing warrior baked into it? I like it! FM 1 1 Quote

I used to fish the heddon crazy crawler that looks a lot like that back when I was young. I should do well! 1 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 The Rapala creature baits are pretty good. I got to try them out last summer when I got a few before release. Did well on a free rig. Quote
GRiver Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 I’m going to really give crank baits a go. I even bought another rig for it, and ordered some baits too. 1 Quote
Fishin Dad Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 I am going to give swimbaits a go this year. I have purchased quite a few over the last couple years and never really gave them a try. I need to grab a capable rod and reel. I also think this could be a bad idea as our lakes have a large amount of vegetation. I know a couple hammers that have made them work at the correct time of year, so it is possible. It just looks interesting enough to make me want to try it. 1 Quote

Reapers use Owner 5133 size 1/0 rigged flat side up on a 1/8 oz slip shot rig. Make sure the hook is straight and the reaper doesn’t spin in the water. Simply drag the rig it’s a no brainer. Mbirdsley Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 only real thing i’m looking to maybe get into this year is the crush city baits from rapala. mainly the mayor and their version of trd. supposedly the crush city line was developed for clear water midwest/greatlakes fishing. supposedly the mayor is to have a tighter tail kick. i’ve had un consistent success with a jig head and boot tail swim bait. maybe the tighter tail kick triggers more strikes maybe not. Fishing time will be a precious commodity for myself in 2024 and i just want to get right to it and not mess around buying and trying a bunch of new stuff. 2 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted January 30, 2024 Super User Posted January 30, 2024 I’d like to say I’m gonna fish jigs (bladed & regular) more this year, for which I have little confidence in. I say it every year but don’t follow through with it. As long as I stay away from YouTube, I’ll do it. 2 Quote
txchaser Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Lipless in the weeds and little stuff out deep on a spinning rod. 3 Quote
WVU-SCPA Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Said it in a different post....but I have big plans for the bellows gill neko rigged. I think it will give different presentation and produce a solid class of fish in my lakes. Looks like there might be some scarcity(TW) in shad colors. I'd like to focus on 12'+ cranks if I can get excess time on the water. 2 Quote

After I got them I realized that the 2" would be great for BFS and drop-shot. Now I have all three sizes and I am looking forward to trying them all. 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted January 30, 2024 Super User Posted January 30, 2024 I plan on trying live Tilapia. I first have to learn how to catch the bait, then how to fish with it. I am not talking about simply suspending a bait below a bomber, throwing it out and sitting in a lawn chair. I want to learn how to skillfully fish the bait, and target the largest bass in the lake. I will fish lures most of the time, but I do want to expand my my bass fishing skillset, learning how to effectively fish live bait. 5 Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted January 30, 2024 Super User Posted January 30, 2024 I have a clear Zara Spook that has been sitting in the tackle box for a few years. I'm going to take that out and try to catch a bass during the daylight hours, not just dawn and dusk. 1 Quote
PourMyOwn Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 This is anticlimactic, but Bomber 5 and 7a cranks. I found a plie in my dad's 1970s tacklebox and I've already upgraded the hardware. We have a lot of rocky clear lakes around here and shallow to mid cranking is really productive. 3 Quote
SAL321 Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Jumping on the underpin bandwagon and investing in some more spy baits. I've had some serious smallmouth on the spy bait pop off. I'm going with a single hook as a hack I saw to see if I can get one of these hogs in the boat. 1 Quote
