Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like anywhere between 12 and 15 lb is the answer. Now, let’s expand a little. If you had 1 baitcaster and only 1 type of line what would it be. What would be the most versatile, braid, mono, fluoro?

16 lb supernatural mono. I fish supernatural on lots of rods and for all techniques already. 16 lb is thin.

it ties great knots.

The title made me think 1 lb line lol. I was like well I use 2 lb Daiwa samurai but that's as low as I go  Edit: for standard casting reels I use 8lb FC for bank fishing. As long as I don't burn the knot it's plenty tough.

I’d go 30-40lb braid. Fishin weeds? Keep it straight braid. Open water or brush? Tie on a 12-15lb fluoro leader. Topwater? Tie on a mono leader.

you got options with braid, and it lasts forever on the spool. No TLC needed.

I’ve had the same 50lb braid on one of my reels for probably over a year now and the color is faded, but it still casts great

Almost every MH rod I own that doesn't use braid (not many use braid) has 12# on it.  I wouldn't be using a Medium power rod if I only had one rod to fish from shore.  Having moved to Florida last year,  I might consider upping that to 15#.  Also because of moving to Florida, I will be using more braid now.

I'll give you an alternative that is 80% of the benefit of flouro with 20% of the drama. And it's forgiving to nicks and to your wallet. Sufix Advance copoly. It's pretty low stretch, pretty cheap, pretty sensitive. Just be aware that like big game mono or yo-zuri it's big for it's rated size. 8 or 10 lb is more like 12 or 15 in something like invisx flouro.

I don't fish braid to leader anymore except in very specific applications, if I had a single baitcaster that's exactly what I'd do though. Very versatile, and you can play with the leader size and type. And you don't have to cutoff 30 yards of stretched flouro in a breakoff. Flouro really doesn't like to be stretched to breaking, it may damage the whole line.

If I could only choose 1 line for 1 combo it would either be 40lb PP Super slick or 12lb Yo Zuri.

I've been able to fish Yo-Zuri with top and under water lures just fine. Braid is easier to manage but you have to deal with leader knots, not a deal breaker but something I avoid if I can.

Got snagged with the first fluoro I used.  Had to break the line.  Mucho stretch.  Frayed ends.  Not a pretty sight.
