KP Duty Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Wanting to make some keitech/skinny bear style jigs. Looking for something to put on the jig collar to accomplish this. I've ran across a thing or two to use....maybe even a small rubber washer. What say you? 1 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 Copper wire that you could use for gardening Quote
KP Duty Posted January 27, 2024 Author Posted January 27, 2024 Did some research. Apparently an o-ring under the skirt tie will get the bottom material to flare. I'm thinking a small rubber washer will get the top fibers to flare out sharply/flat. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 27, 2024 Super User Posted January 27, 2024 Wire tied living rubber flares the most. 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 27, 2024 Super User Posted January 27, 2024 Look up puff ball jigs and how to tie them. You don’t need anything extra. This one is round living rubber and silicone. 5 Quote

Fishingskirts.com sells an o-ring you can run behind the back of the skirt to get the bottom layer to flare. The other thing you can do is just use a hole-in-one skirt which has the same flare. KP Duty Posted January 29, 2024 Author Posted January 29, 2024 I want the top of the skirt on my finesse jigs to look like this. It kind of does this naturally with larger/heavier heads, but harder to accomplish with 3/16 and 1/4oz ball heads. Quote

Allen I've never tried tying skirts (yet)...been using zip ties. They work, but are thicker than wire and don't promote flaring. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 29, 2024 Super User Posted January 29, 2024 What you have in the pic is a lion collar jig. You can wire tie them with a little practice. You can get more flair if you make a channel in the lead close to the head and put your wire in it. If you have trouble with the wire you can use thread to get everything positioned then put the wire on. I sometimes do that when I have several different colors to put on. If you can, don’t put the weed guard in until last. That will make everything much easier. 3 Quote
The Jig Is Up Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Yes, @smalljaw67 has some fantastic videos showing how to do this. Cut a groove in the lead collar up close to the head. If you are not keen on thread tying, you can use artistic wire to tightly cinch the skirt material where that groove is. It's tougher to get the same flare with a small jighead, but that should give you something close to what you're looking for. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 20, 2024 Super User Posted February 20, 2024 Slide a bubbler skirt collar up under the jig tail against the skirt to flare it. Tom 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted February 20, 2024 Super User Posted February 20, 2024 The large size umbrella is for jigs. The skirt is tied onto the tubular end, slide the umbrella onto the jig tail end with the cone end towards the jig head. Tom Quote
Bdnoble84 Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 If you thread tie your skirts you can make it flair by tying with close tight wraps up against the head. You can do the same to the inside skirting by tying tight up against the collar on the jig shank. 2 Quote
