ok spinnerbait people question.

One thing I would like to see in a spinnerbait is head designed to give a little bit of side to side movement. Like the motion that a crankbait lip provides. I'd think that it should be a bit more subtle then most cranks so it wouldn't interfere with the blades. If you could add the wobble to the flash and vibration, I think you'd have a killer bait.

A good trailer keeper would also be important.

I am a spinnerbait guy.I choose a certain brand of spinnerbait based on blade configuration and color,skirt colors,feel or balance,and ability to come through heavy wood cover without getting hung up.

Good point Garnet, about the Colorado blades on a willow leaf frame, it doesn't work very well.

A spinnerbait company wanted me to come up with a new design concept.

Ask them to design a spinnerbait that you can change the top blade without having to straighten out the loop at the bottom of the wire to remove the clevis.  I'll be happy to beta test it for them  .

Clipper, go buy yourself a few Hildebrandt inline spinners they are just a blade with clip on it. Take the thing apart and flip the blade and put the brass bead on the other side.  Now bend a ring on the end of the spinnerbait arm and just clip the thing on the end. Now make up another one and clip it to the end of the other one. Make up a bunch with the different size blades that you use and then switch them out whenever you want. These things just reverse everything.

How can anyone not be a fan of the spinnerbait? They are the lure that first introduced me to bass fishing.

All of the things you mentioned are important to a degree. Personally I was tired of buying $4 spinnerbaits and then having to modify them to my requirements. Now I just build them myself so they will be right from the start. I fish mostly in the Upper Potomac river here in Maryland for smallmouth and the best spinnerbait is a compact, 3/8oz, white, double nickel willow. As for the wire size question the thinner wire works a lot better for me but I do not know why? Running depth depends on the weight vs blade size because bigger blades create more lift. In the fall I like to use a 1/2oz shad colored spinnerbait with 3 small silver willows and reel the hell out of it. As for colors the basics are: chartruese/white, white and black but since I make my own I have at least 30 different colors.
