katmandew Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I want it for 3/8 and 1/2 oz football jigs and apparently they are all the rage for that application over at TB. I also like the idea of the soft tip and solid backbone halfway down the rod. I have an old Smallmouth Guru rod from All Pro that fishes like that in a medium. Wondering if anyone has fished both and can say yay or nay to that comparison? I know the NRX is going to be much more sensitive as I have an NRX+ 852s, so I know what I’m getting there, but I’ve never fished the MBR action. I’d mainly use for football jigs, but also would like to do 3/8 heads with keitechs as well on it. Is this possible or are they too stiff to throw the keitechs? Should I be looking at the 843C MBR? I have the 894C JWR in the GLX and I know that’s way stouter than what I’m looking for here. Quote
KP Duty Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 You want the 844 imo. Years ago I used 2 844 GLX's for all 1/4-1/2oz jig and worm duties. 1 Quote
softwateronly Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I only have one loomis, a 904, and I agree with @KP Duty. The 4 power mbr is pretty unique, the softness of the tip threw me off my first few times fishing with it, I didn't quite get how much power was behind it. scott 1 Quote
waymont Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I use both an 843 and 844 mbr but in the GLX line. For your applications you want the 844. The 844 is also a killer swim jig and chatterbait rod. 1 Quote
katmandew Posted January 23, 2024 Author Posted January 23, 2024 Great, thanks. Are there any dealers we can order from online that sell below the MSRP of $650 on the NRX+ rods? There used to be, just wanted to check and see. Quote
Wprich Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I have both if you plan on fishing anything 1/2 + trailer the 844 is what you want. Quote

The hookup tackle has a 9/10 rated rod with full warranty for $495. I've purchased a 9/10 used from them before and it was flawless just missing tags. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 24, 2024 Super User Posted January 24, 2024 I have the 844C GLX and IMX, older versions. They are great rods. I also have the 904C NRX+ that I use as my primary 1/2oz football jig rod. It is by far my favorite jig rod. I wouldn't hesitate to get the 844C in the NRX+. It can be a challenge to find one below the MSRP but it can be done. Good luck. Quote
