PBBrandon Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Last week I ordered a used 7’3” MH Poison Adrena. And this is what showed up on my doorstep. not gonna say which delivery service it was (they’re gonna hear about it tomorrow lol) but wow. Nothin like pulling up in the driveway and seeing a tube looking like that. sorry just needed to vent somewhere. It’s got insurance on it which helps but I got a great deal on it and was really looking forward to using it once the darn cold snap ended 9 Quote
Super User gim Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 This is why I don’t order rods online. Store only in person. That sort of result would make me never want to order again too. Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 Was that a TW purchase? I've ordered rods from TW and their tubes are ridiculously strong. I had to cut one down one time with a hand saw to ship a baseball bat and I was surprised at how tough it was. 3 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 Might be able to turn lemons into lemonade since you got the insurance. I'd see if the person you bought the rod from still has the receipt, and then see if you can get the typical nowadays rod warranty replacement fee to get a brand new rod from Shimano. New rod + leftover insurance money = net win, especially if you aren't in a hurry to fish with it. Sorry to see that, I'd be quite upset as well. I've gotten half a dozen rods sent to me over the last year or so from the factory.....they shipped in very thick tubes. Not that's its on the seller, but I think if folks used the really robust tubes we'd see less of these posts. Pure Fishing sold a bunch of rods at pennies on the dollar two BFs ago......a number of folks here received rods that were broken. You don't have to name the shipper, they're all terrible for the most part these days sadly. 2 Quote

The postal service just manhandled it during transit and tried to Jerry rig something on the snapped tube. TW always does an excellent job with rods. 1 1 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 If it was from TW, they'll take care of it without you dealing with the shipper. I've had the identical situation once before and it was painless. Quote

He didn’t have to and I appreciate it. if anything, whatever happens if I get my money back, I can use Shimano’s express program and get half off a new PA. (About what I had paid for the rod) 1 Quote

Of those 7 rods I had shipped to me over the last year, 3 of them were re shipments because of flaws in the rods that the company replaced. In person I would have never had that happen because I would have seen them and not bought the rod. On the other hand I bought a JDM Megabass P5 Destroyer a few months ago from Dance's Outdoors and the thing came in the most robust tube I could imagine and was truly pristine. I'll continue to roll the dice, but you're right, buyer should certainly beware when buying rods not in person. 1 Quote

It’s just something you have to accept if you choose to buy an item like that online. A percentage may show up damaged. I am a person that needs to hold, touch, and feel a rod before purchasing. Personal preference. Like trying shoes on before I buy them. I am also blessed with an abundance of retailers nearby. Some may not have that option. Quote

Can’t wait til I can handle rods in person again 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 The seller in needs to know right away as any claim after 30 days from initial shipping will be denied. Tom Quote

I am familiar with this issue. The Scheels here have all ice fishing crap right now until about March. 1 Quote
KP Duty Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 The conveyor belt got it. TW puts a large green sticker on rod tubes that says 'do not convey'. 4 Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 Just got a rod from TW a couple days ago. Other than a return from Ark, it was the worst packing job I've ever seen. The taped the tip with bubble wrap and suspended the rod by the plastic factory sleeve. That's ok if you brace the mid section and immobilize the rod. Eventually the weight of the rod against the plastic gives and it bounces around. In this case the tip pushed through the bubble wrap because it was supporting all the weight. I think it's ok, but I wouldn't be shocked if I blow the tip section of that rod up flipping a fish onto the jetty. Quote

A for effort? 🤷🏻♂️ 1 Quote
newapti5 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Such a bummer. I had the same experience twice out of all my online rod purchases. And I asked, why? why bother taping it up when the tube and the content inside are clearly broken in half? Might as well just ship it straight back to the seller and save me the heartbreak of seeing it. 1 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I've had one show up from American Legacy that way through the USPS. I hadn't thought about it, but I bet the conveyor got that as well as KP Duty mentioned because it was packed well and in a heavy cardboard tube. Completely snapped in half. No way a person handles it rough enough to do that. American Legacy was awesome. Immediately credited me for it while I sent back the broken handle portion. I just cut the broken tube off clean, put the broken portion back in, and shipped it back using the shipping label ALF sent me. Sucked, but ALF were awesome! 4 Quote

Junger Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Great rod, hopefully you can get it replaced with a new one. Quote

Any old Shimano rods you want to upgrade to the newest model. They’ll sell you a brand new rod for 50% off msrp (will include sales going on at the time too unless that was just pre-Covid) and ship the rod to you. In return you ship the broken or old rod back to them in the same tube with the return postage label included. Quote

Another thing is you can only use it once per rod. Which honestly is probably a good thing so it doesn’t get abused the heck out of and then ruined like a lot of great warranty/replacement programs do Quote

And yeah it’s once per rod. That’s why they make you send back the rod that is being replace. At least when I used the program that’s what they did. They’ll give you 60 days to return it then if not received they’ll charge you the full price of the rod on your CC. I used to get older Shimano rod models that people were selling cheap and then just upgrade through Shimano. Saved a few bucks and got a new rod. No complaints there. 2 Quote
Dan N Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I received a rod (and tube) in this condition. It was obviously done in shipping. I sent an email and a couple pics and had a new rod in a couple days. I would think any reputable dealer would have it insured, and replace for free. Mine was from ALX. excellent customer service. Doesn’t look like a TW tube.m, but yeah it is hard to bend their tubes like this if you try. I have had this happen before. The sellers were good about refunding my money. One time UPS didn’t know what to do my return and sent it back to me, I told the driver I sent it back and they put a note on it. For the next two or three months I got a notice that they couldn’t find where to deliver it every single day. The seller at least realized it wasn’t my fault and refunded me while this went on. 1 Quote
