After 9 long years, finally Shimano renews the Metanium DC reel. I don't care much about the black color, but the new IDC-5 brake is interesting. Using aluminum gears, it weighs only about 6.1oz, which is very light, given the DC brake unit usually weighs a lot.

Also a new twin power, updated slx mgl 70, and updated poison adrena rods. Wonder if we'll see an updated aldebaran mgl at some point this year.

I really like the looks of that new slx mgl 70, might actually make me finally order a reel from Japan. I have been wanting to just sort of been on the fence. Which I find odd due to the fact that I throw new and weird things when fishing without second guessing. But to order a reel instead of walking in and buying it is messing with my mind lol.

Me too. I really wish I could go to a store for everything.

Yeah I like being able to hold it in my hands and decide, but sometimes change can be good. This time I might venture outside of my comfort zone. I am looking forward to see what it does, even though it’s a 70 I think that the line capacity is a little bit more than the current 70 mgl.

@Jmurphy87 & @Derek1 don’t let the fear of ordering from Japan hold you back, other than some minor differences between the usdm and JDM models such as smaller/shorter handles and aluminum vs brass gears the frames are the same and the  cost savings are too good to miss out on. I’ve ordered 2 times from Japan Lure Shop and couldn’t be happier. Also @Jmurphy87 can you tell me where you saw the updated SLX MGL? Funny enough my last order was a SLX MGL from JLS.

I don’t really have any worries about ordering. I just like to go to the store and get it when I want it.

I didn’t know about it at first, I saw the thread title new metanium dc that I knew about, but then the original poster had mentioned a new slx mgl 70.

I went to the site and looked and found it under reels, it has the mgl 3 spool, I copied the link and it is here below

You should check out the slx dc xt.   Much better reel.  Very comfortable to use and I enjoy using it as much as my zillion sv Gs.    It has the MGL 3 spool and idc5 brakes

The last dc reel I owned was the previous metanium dc, it was decent. I definitely think that looking back that it was not quite worth the price of admission. I have learned that I enjoy to use my thumb and work on learning different reels, they are all different and have there little quirks and that’s what I enjoy is the challenge. Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely give it a look.

I don’t like dc reels.  I prefer to use my thumb and the sound just gets old.   Dc braking aside.  I got the slx dc xt because it looked great on paper.  It’s above slx level for sure.    I have a couple slx mgl reels and this slx dc xt is nothing like an slx.  Different frame.  Small and compact.

Yeah I have heard quite a few good things about them, the specifications are definitely nice also.

In the baitcasting line I'm only really seeing a new reel seat, redesign of the monocoque handle, possibly lighter due to new materials, and some different length and power options from the old US line.  The 6'11ML/H FF and a 2 piece 7'2H have my attention right now.

Yeah it looks like they changed a few things, added a couple different tapers. I think that they look good with what they have redesigned. I always liked the poison adrena rods that I had. I had 6’11 M+ and the MH spinning rod. They were good rods for sure. I can’t imagine the new ones being any less than they were.

It's the new one. My bad tho. I saw 'add to cart' and thought it was in stock. But it's for pre-order.

Oh I saw that it’s the new one.   I’m just saying it looks like the old one but has mgl 3

The new SLX 70A looks like it's got a new paint job too and it looks pretty good!

You guys think this new Metanium DC will come with brass gears or not? plus the handle looks like it's an 84MM, the reel is looking really good overall though.

Pretty sure that the met dc isn't brass main gear with a 6.1oz weight and being dc, it's hard to see where weight would be eliminated if not the gear.  I'd be surprised if it was.
