I am considering a new BFS rod. The rod I am currently using is an older 6' rod but I would like to try a longer rod.

I like to handle a rod before I buy but none of the shops near me including Cabela's have a selection of BFS rods to handle. My only option is to buy online and hope for the best.

I am currently looking at the Dobyns SUF 700C but I am open to suggestions about other rods including places to buy.

What do you plan to do with the new rod?  That dobyns from everything I've heard has a really soft tip compared to other rods

I thought the Dobyns tip was too soft to fish around even the lightest cover. I much prefer the Phenix Classic BFS… or if you need a tad more power, the Phenix Feather ML.

Everyone has their own idea of what BFS is. What exactly are you throwing?

1/15th up to 1/4, maybe a little more. Using 8lb braid now on the reel. I have been throwing a lot of light lures and some weightless rubber.

Thanks!  I do not want a soft tip. The rod I'm using now has a soft tip.

This is the problem where I'm at. No one has any rods that I would like to look at in stock.

I ordered 4 BFS rods from TW for that reason… fondled all four and kept two. Sent the others back with no return mailing charge. Got the refund on the rods I returned before the next credit card statement.

I know Matt Allen likes the 7'2 ML Expride B for his 'flipping' presentations. Also the 6'10 ML Cashion Icon for bottom contact/all-around.

I just looked at the 7" Cashion on another site. The weight range is the best I've seen so far and that is a plus for me.

It’s going to be hard to get a rod that will cast those weights and not feel soft. When you say a soft tip, do you mean a slower tip/action?

I spent the last four hours watching videos and reading reviews and you're right. I may need to go with a softer rod especially since I want to throw mostly light soft plastics.

Check out the Phenix Classic BFS rods. I have the 6'8" and 7'1" casting rods. Also comes in a 7'4" casting rod.

Just an FYI. Thanks to the guys who made suggestions. I ended up with a Cashion BFS rod which I think will be the best setup for me.
