throttleplate Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 Wife has never seen the original star wars movies, she watched the new obi wan movie with me at home and now wants me to play all the past movies, 9 of them, so i downloaded them all and will play them in chronological order, not the year they were released. Last night we watched episode #1 The Phantom Menace and will end with ep#9 The Rise Of Skywalker. The Phantom Menace has Jar-Jar Binks in it acting all goofy and she laughed at his antics and seeing it again jar jar was ok with me. 1 Quote
padlin Posted January 17, 2024 Posted January 17, 2024 I Ā vaguely recall seeing the first movie when it came out, someday Iāll be like your bride and watch the rest. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted January 17, 2024 Author Posted January 17, 2024 The new obi wan movie has alot of vader in it, it is obi wansĀ back story to his later anakin, vader years. I thought it was great. 40 minutes ago, padlin said: I Ā vaguely recall seeing the first movie when it came out, someday Iāll be like your bride and watch the rest. Ā George Lucas had always intended for the original Star Wars film to be a small part of a much larger story. So just because it was the first film to be released doesn't mean it's the start of the story. Instead of going with release order, you can also try chronological order based on when the movies are supposed to take place. This would mean starting with Episode I, II, and III of the prequel trilogy, before moving to IV, V, VI of the original movies, then finishing with VII, VIII, IX from the sequels. If you're adding the standalone films, you can fitĀ Rogue One and Solo in between Episodes III and IV, and it should work fine. However, since this order completely ruins the Darth Vader reveal in the original films, it is not advisable that anyone should watch these movies for the first time in this order. Watching Star Wars in chronological order is more of a fun experiment for longtime fans to see the series from a new perspective. If you were to watch the Star Wars films in chronological order, it would look like this:Ā Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Solo (optional) Rogue One (optional) Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker 3 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted January 17, 2024 Super User Posted January 17, 2024 Iāve seen just about all the live-action content, except Ahsoka which Iāll start in the next week or so. Also seen a lot of the animated content. I do a watch through of episodes 1-6 every winter. Apart from Episodes 7-9 (which I pretend donāt exist), I love it all. Rogue One is without a doubt my favorite.Ā The Andor series is also great, as well as The Mandalorian of course. I didnāt hate The Book of Boba Fett as much as everybody else, and I also enjoyed the Kenobi miniseries. Iām here for it all.Ā 3 Quote
JackstrawIII Posted January 18, 2024 Posted January 18, 2024 Interesting to hear SW fans with such diverse opinions on the various shows/films.Ā Ā PS. I hate Binks more and more each time I watch Ep1.Ā 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted January 18, 2024 Author Posted January 18, 2024 I never was a star wars geek, i dont own a poster or any toy from the series and watching the movies as they came out i never really understood the complete storyline and who the traitors were and the continuing roles of the many caracters and didnt care, i just enjoyed what was on the screen at the time. But now as i intently watch the series in chronological order i am now fully understanding of the plot and the characters and the influence they bring to the story. I am binge watching the series and it seems all new to me with alot learned and to be learned, maybe i need to buy a poster now Quote
RipzLipz Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 @throttleplateĀ in his garage this weekend š Ā Ā J/k dude - glad you found a renewed interest in the series. 1 3 Quote
throttleplate Posted January 20, 2024 Author Posted January 20, 2024 Ā finished episode 6 last night, anyone here have a problem with the Ewoks, the little bear like creatures? after seeing the ewoks again years later i find them to be pretty lame, worse than jar-jar binks. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 21, 2024 Super User Posted January 21, 2024 Thatās great. Donāt bother with 7-9. Waste of time. What happened to the old characters is nearly a crime. These last 3 destroy Star Wars. There was some potential to do good with these and it was all wasted and the baby was thrown out with the bath water. Just my opinion. Many Star Wars fans share this sentiment.Ā Ā Then again, since you werenāt a big fan yourself, you might not take umbrage and therefore no skin off your back. May the force be with youā¦ always.Ā 1 Quote

The acting from Leia and Han was stiff, not because of their age but verbally it sounded like they were just there for the paycheck. Grade C. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted January 21, 2024 Super User Posted January 21, 2024 @throttleplate: I hear you. I think the script was more the issue since actors generally follow it as itās what they do. Itās downhill from this point. If you decide to dig deeper, you will learn that George Lucas sold his company to Disney after he made the prequels (1-3 phantom menace , etc.) He even gave them his vision of what 7, 8 and 9 should be and Disney changed everything, leaving little if any of his input out. Itās all downhill from this point, that is, 8 and 9. No cohesion, no sense, worse than a chicken running around with its head cut off - Iām trying to be as civil and as objective as I can. No, Iām not some diehard Star Wars fan, although I do like it, Ā but I do appreciate a good story and 7-9 fail completely in that regard. Ā Iād rather prepare the ingredients for roll 1000 lumpia by myself rather than watch episode 8 (9 was better overall). Ā Please continue to report back. I speak for myself but I am enjoying the journey your both on watching it. Unlike many Star Wars diehards, for the most part, I liked the Obi Wan series. Granted some things were like hmmm, (like the bad guys unable to catch a little girl. Come on).Ā 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted January 23, 2024 Author Posted January 23, 2024 Ā last night we watched ep8, here is what i liked, there was a backstory for kylo-ren, a short story but good enough for his character and he took the stupid helmet off. I would have liked if they didnt kill luke skywalker, just let him live on his island after he sent his jedi soul to hold back kylo and the door busting machine, but the writer and disney wanted him dead so i was ok with the way they killed off luke skywalker. I liked the actor rose, she had character in her role. Ā What i didnt like, start with the actor who played poe the pilot, he is no maverick aka tom cruise, he looked and acted more like the ships janitor, the finn character is boring, maybe they needed kevin hart to play his role and i dont like kevin hart and his screaming, Laura dern and her movie role hairdo should stick to dinosaur movies. The code breaker scenes, should have used an alien character figure not some human greaseball. I was bored as the code breaker stuff was going on and was wondering how much longer this movie is going to last. Cant forget about rey, she doesnt do it for me, i dont like her accent, her part needs to be played by a female more in the laura croft catagory, well i am a man with an opinion. Are her parents really scavengers? maybe i will find out in the last episode. Grade C- the minus is for it being 30 minutes to long. Quote
Super User gim Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 Iāve seen them all. Ā I am not a die hard Star Wars fans by any means but they are decent flicks that have some imagination to them. Theyāve obviously all done very well at the box office. Ā I hope to visit Galaxyās Edge at Disney World someday and take a ride on on the Millennium Falcon via Smugglers Run. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 I haven't seen them all - but while the **first 3** were very good, they seem to have gone downhill since. The Prequel Trilogy was disjointed in some ways and the Sequel Trilogy was just full of EXCUSE ME - WHAT THE ----!? The Mandalorian gained back some of my interest...maybe stream-rent Ahsoka and Clone Wars one of these days. Ā Only special thing I've done related to SW was Nora and I went to the Star Wars Exhibition when it made a stop at the St. Paul Science Museum back in '08 and I got a pic done with their overlay setup Ā **I was in High School when the one they renamed "New Hope" came out - so IV,V, and VI are 'first 3' to me** 2 1 1 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted January 23, 2024 Super User Posted January 23, 2024 @throttleplate: nice ābook reportā š Ā just my humble opinion but to me there was so much potential for characters like Finn and Rey. Wasted. Just wasted. Anyway. At the very least, 9 is action packed. Looking forward to you next report for 9 and its denouement. My 7th grade teacherās question after every story read was, āWhat was the denouement?ā Lol. In a nutshell, how did the story unravel or resolve to? I know you know that thereās no way Rey is the child of scavengers. š Quote
throttleplate Posted January 23, 2024 Author Posted January 23, 2024 I finished ep9 last nite, here is what i liked, from the very first scene there were alien creatures involved working on the ship and interacting with the rebels, kylo ren had his helmet off more than on and the continuation of his character and interaction with reyĀ was written very well. The old palpatine emperor was good and the way he explained that he created snokes along with the way palpatine was finally killed off was fine. luke skywalker in ghostly form was a good scene also bringing his ship out of the water for some nostalgia and cant forget Leias old lite saber. Princess leia dieing was good enough for me, Lando showing up and flying around with chewy ok and cp3o was more important in the story line. Ā Rey grew a pair, writers had her more in a laura croft way climbing up old battle ships showing alot of strength and her english was better, finding out she was a palpatine was well done in short order. The writers for rey gave her good lines and she matured as an actor from episode 8, her ending the movie burying the lite sabres and announcing to the desert stranger she was a skywalker was very good. Ā What i didnt like was poe, still not interesting to me along with finn who is now some kind of chick magnet and still meh to me. The rebels standing on the deck of the ship they were blowing up in outer space and not needing oxygen masks or floating away geeeezz wizz, i know we are supposed to look the other way, its a movie. Not much else to be negative about, it was well written, fast paced, lots of action, things were revealed and an ending that leaves it open for another writer to take it over and put new life into it. Grade B+ 1 Quote
Loomis13 Posted January 25, 2024 Posted January 25, 2024 I don't hate 7,8,9 as much as most Star Wars fans but I don't overly enjoy them. Just kind of meh. I did think 9 was the best as you did. 6 still remains my favorite.Ā Ā If you really want a Star Wars rabbit hole watch the clone wars and rebels. A lot of questions get answered in those movies.Ā Ā someone else mentioned it, but Rogue One is fantastic and Solo is also pretty good.Ā 1 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted January 25, 2024 Super User Posted January 25, 2024 @throttleplateĀ yeah The Clone Wars is an animated series. Didnāt think it would be my thing either until I gave it a shot. It explains so much of what takes place between Episodes 2 & 3 and gives context to it all. Itās very entertaining and was easy for me to forget I was watching an animated series. I highly recommend it, especially if youāve watched all the live action content. It gives a ton of context to the universe, and makes it all the more interesting in my opinion.Ā 1 Quote
