Daiwa Tatula Elite vs Daiwa Tatula 100 2023

Does anybody use the Tat Elite here and can attest to what it has over lower tat models like 80, 150, 200, etc, or even over the new 100 model which includes all of the hyperdrive features found in higher-end models

I have the Elite Pitch and Flip model and I really like it. I can't give you all the specs. I think the biggest advantage I had heard is that I believe it has aluminum side plates, which is supposed to keep things better aligned for smoother and durable construction.

 

i believe the P/F model I have has a shallower spool than the regular Tatula Elite and has a large handle with large foam knobs that allow for increased handle torque. I dont think the regular Elite gets the same handle, but I don't know that for sure.

 

All I know is that I picked one up on sale and put it on a St Croix Legend series rod I had picked up. It's light and well balanced, yet feels bulletproof! I really like it for pitching skipping jigs in and around cover

Yeah the P/F is coming to my Arsenal one. Also from what I understand, $180 tatulas have an aluminum frame and aluminum side plate on the handle side.

The new 100 has a differently styled frame. Spool weights are the same as the Elite at about 14 grams, but the Elite has a stiffer inductor spring as do other Daiwas intended for longer casts.

 

The initial promo vid from Daiwa says the 23 100 has a metal side-plate, but this isn't mentioned on TW's site or any other seller's pages AFAIK. They also claimed it has a double bearing supported pinion, but it just the standard Tatula long spool configuration. However, the schematic shows a spring clip retainer for the spool bearing on that side which is a good sign that it may have a metal side plate after all, but I have yet to confirm this. Hopefully it does.

The SVs don't other than the 70.

23 Tatula 100 section

Don't all the Tatulas have the spring clip on the handle side? I know one side has the star shape retainer and the other has the square spring clip.

 

Thought the spring clip one was on the handle side and star shaped one on the spool cover side on all of them that I have opened up..

No, typically only the metal side plate models. They have a groove machined into the bearing well to receive the spring clip (15). However, all models have the spring clip retainer on the palming side plate.

The star shaped friction fit retainer (49) is found on recent plastic handle-side side plate models.

You're right.

 

I just knew I had pulled them out when replacing bearings on my CT Type R and flushing /oiling bearings on the Tat SVs. I knew there was one of each on mine, but had them backwards.

I had a bunch of tat sv's and a couple of the elites. I really liked the P/F but that was mostly because the handle was A+. If I were buying a new reel and had to be under the zillion class reels, my #1 priority would be the new gear cut so I think I'd just get the new 100. Feel on the reeling has such a dramatic effect on my experience though. I just go nuts with the geary. They all cast great. 

 

Obligatory comment: just buy the the JDM zillion. Easy to buy on amazon.co.jp or amazon.com if you aren't comfy with digitaka or whatever. It's ~225 and it's a whole 'nother class of reel. I have no preference for my lone Steez SV over the zillions.

I like the way the Elite casts but its a bit pricey at $170 when I can get Zillions for under $250.  It they had the hyper gears I'd be all over the Elite.  The spool in that one is special.  It has normal tatula braking profile but is super light like the SV spools so it is an effortless caster and easy to control for skipping and pitching but still out cast non SV Boost spools.
