5"-8" Of Snow Tomorrow

That means we are shutting down for the next several days.  My brother in Kansas City

is waiting on a call from Taylor, but otherwise he is not going to Arrowhead for the game

It’s funny how things are for different parts of the country/countries. You guys get 5” of snow and the world grinds to a halt, since about 8:00 last night, we’ve gotten about 10” or so, and we just call it another winter day. Just got back from doing a big grocery shop, and it was the same as any other day in any season, people just going about their day with no real concerns at all. The way it’s coming down now we’ll get another 10” by tomorrow, and I’ll fire up the tractor and clean it all up, then get on with my day like any other day.

I get that as well, but in their defense they do not have the infrastructure or equipment to deal with accumulating snow plus most of the people there do not know how to drive in those conditions. Sometimes I wish they'd check ID's up here before being able to go up the mountain. If your car is spinning at 3000' at the bottom of the grade you're not making it all the way up to the next exit in a few miles at 4000' . Instead of turning around they'll try it anyway and shut down the whole highway after abandoning their vehicle in the middle of the road. Tempted to get a grille guard and just gently push them out of the way. 😆

Yeah Memphis gets 5 inches of snow about once a decade. Nobody has the equipment to deal with it. Now ice, that another thing they have no idea how to deal with…😀

Hunker on down, Kent. Get a fire going in the fireplace, snuggle up to your partner (or dog if there's no partner) and down that hot chocolate. We'll wait for you to emerge from TN's ice-age...

I remember when I was in 8th grade we were living outside of Houston and we had ice followed by a few inches of snow and below freezing temps for several days. They cancelled school for an entire week because there was no equipment to clear the roads and the bus drivers weren't experienced driving in those conditions. Of course as a 13yo boy I was ecstatic to miss school and play video games all day. My mom was stay at home at the time and she grew up in Iowa so we went all over the place.....movies, out to eat, my buddies house.

Understand completely @DitchPanda. Traveling with a friend in Huntsville Alabama in 1993 when the storm of the century hit...At first there was maybe a 1/2 inch of wet snow on the grass...nothing sticking on the roads...everything was closed...people freaking out. We just giggled. 

 

Next morning we headed north in his 1983 Crown Victoria, rear wheel drive, V8...no issues until we got in to Tennessee...where snow was stackin up on roads. Problem was, they did not have plows and snow removal equipment, nor the knowledge of how to make roads passable. 

 

It was a white-knuckle drive until we got in to Missouri. 

 

I remember the 1975 Blizzard here in Nebraska...19" of snow, 60 MPH winds. I remember digging tunnels in 5 foot high drifts for the next couple of weeks...thought it was pretty cool. But I was 8 years old at the time. 

 

It's -19 this morning, but the wind is only blowing 10-15 MPH today. Going to be another cold one.

Frost builds up on the nailheads that fasten the trim on his door and window jambs.

It's like -30F this week.

Tell you what, it's not very often that Tennessee has more snow on the ground in January than Minnesota does.  I've got about 2 inches on the ground here.

I’ve got 8” still dumping. I didn’t check the predictions, usually it rains when they want it to snow

My mom and her neighbors 20 miles south of me have 1” and rain is melting it

We have 4 1/2 inches so it’s officially a blizzard.   It’s still falling but we are unlikely to get 6 inches which would officially be a snowpocalypse. 😆

For us...6" is just a nuisance.

93 was so epic down here in the South.....we had over 20" of snow, the city called out for those with 4x4s to volunteer, and my dad stepped up.  

 

Still remember riding with my dad to pick up an elderly and then pregnant lady, such a great memory. 

 

Pretty awesome seeing snow down here even though I hate the stuff.   

 

ETA:   It might snow here in a few hours, hoping it doesn't.   We've had enough precipitation over the last week, lake needs the clarity.

Good lord - I’d be surprised if we have an inch south of Indy. Still had open water last week. Bottom dropped out over weekend down to single digits for high & supposed to be near 50°F here in about a week. Fingers crossed, I’ll be fishing in less than 60 days. Probably just jinxed myself.

actually our Honda fit with 300,000 miles is a good car for snow but the snow has buried the poor little car twice today. We aren’t driving anywhere though, I walked to store earlier
