GAcraw22 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I recently purchased a Daiwa Vento (Left handed) Baitcast reel. I would appreciate any suggestions on the right rod to match it to. I usually fish a spinning reel/rod 6'6 MH. This is my first baitcast reel and I need a suitable rod. Thanks for any suggestions and advice. Brent Calhoun, GA Quote
Lightninrod Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Welcome to BR Brent from another Georgian . I'd get one of these. Dan Quote
Fishing Doug Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Welcome to the board! You will get a lot of good feedback on this board, however, one of the first questions the experts here are going to ask is: what is your primary use going to be for this setup? one of the next questions is: what is your budget for the rod? Post the answers to those 2 questions and you will get more and more accurate responses. FD Quote
GAcraw22 Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 Thanks for the help. Primary use will be spinnerbaits and cranks. Budget: $100.00-150.00 thanks for the assistance..... Brent Calhoun, GA Quote
RiskKid. Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Just curious, I have a Viento and basically liked the twitchin bar gimmick for jigs and worms. Cranks and spinnerbaits don't lend themselves to the twithin bar, not that its not a nice reel without using the bar just wondering why, as a worm and jig rod would be a pretty different choice than a crank or spinnerbait rod. In any event I would think about this, a tad over budget but well worth it as this rod retails much higher. http://cgi.ebay.com/G-Loomis-Crankbait-Rod-CBR843-New_W0QQitemZ230059500264QQihZ013QQcategoryZ36149QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Fishing Doug Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I have the exact rod that riskkid suggested. great rod for the $$$. I would suggest that as well. However, some other guys may think that the moderate action is too slow for spinnerbaits, but if you are fishing cranks as well, I don't see any way around that. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I would look at the Diawa light and tough series. They are great rods, and not too expensive. I have 3 of them and on one sits a viento............. ;D Quote
volpster31 Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 riskid has a point of not using that reel for jigs/worms....but its yours so use it how you want.i just got the same reel & paired it with one of these http://www.reedssports.com/Product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=669 the daiwa light & tuff looks sweet to Quote
