I wouldn't get another K. I know they get lots of love around here but it felt like a step down from the "I" series to me. I'd go tatula but I'm sure others will chime in with even better recommendations.

The K is a better made reel, and more comfortable in my hands. The Ct is an overachiever in performance and less fussy than the K. Best of both worlds is SLX mgl 70.

I'm a Daiwa guy and have used Shimano also. You can pickup the new 2024 Tatula 100 for about $133 from Japan, it has more line capacity so depends what you plan to be throwing.  With that said Shimano makes good reels, I would go to a store and see what reel feels best in your hands.

Both of them are pretty smooth. Curado has a metal side plate and X-ship, but Tatula has T-wing and third-party spool options. I think it comes down to the line capacity and lure weights. Curado K is a 200 size reel that excels at 3/8oz plus lures; Tatula CT is a 100 size reel good for 1/4 - 1oz lures.

Edited: I stand corrected. The K also has a plastic handle side plate. I must've remembered it wrong.

Get a Tatula sv tw. Look around for a deal, they can be had for around $150ish.

It's a better reel than a 200K IMO. All of my 200 K's got rough and are harder to dial in than either the 2017 or 2020 version Tatula, .

I like both company's reels, but definitely lean more towards Daiwa.  Fleaby has a LH Tatula Elite for $149.99 plus $11.99 shipping.  $249.99 seems to be the normal price.  Buy it before I do.  😄

Another LH is the Tatula SV TW 103 for $142.79 from Walmart.  Free pickup at your local store.  Or $136.59 with free shipping from fleabay.

I would go with the SLX MGL 70 over the Curado K to be honest. It bomb casts light lures extremely well.

On the flipside, if you can get a Tatula SV, those are quite excellent for targeted casts, skippping, pitching etc.

After trying a few reels I think I've got it down to 3.

SLX 70 mgl: lighter lures and pitching. Spools extremely freely and handles lighter lures well.

Lews Speel Spool: general use reel. Does well with just about everything.

Tatula SV: I havent tried anything more expensive but this reel is fantastic for skipping any lure and handles average to heavier lures perfectly. Its not as free spooling as the SLX above but I have yet to have a single birds next with this reel.

The advice given so far is really good. I have both of these reels and here's my take:

- Tatula CT is very strong, but a bit heavy/bulky feeling to me. I use it for heavier rods/baits.

- Curado K feels lighter/smoother to me (fits me better). I use it for lighter moving baits.

- I also have quite a few Daiwas with SV spools. They're really great for anything where you don't need a lot of casting distance.

The recommendations for 70 size Shimanos is spot on. I have a Curado 70 and LOVE it.

This is the answer. Tatula SV's are very forgiving reels and workhorses. They WILL get noisy but that doesn't detract from their usability and effectiveness.

Either, or.  They both have their pluses and minuses.  My advice is to try them both out in a store, if you can, and see which one you like better.  I don't think either one would disappoint you as they're both excellent choices.

As a general rule, I feel like Daiwa makes better value reels and Shimano makes better quality reels.  So usually if two reels are the same price, the Daiwa will often be the better reel.  But if the Shimano is on sale and the Daiwa isn't, like I think it is in this case, the Shimano can be the better reel.  And the usual price difference between a comparable Shimano and Daiwa isn't huge.  Neither is the quality difference.

Personally, I feel that the Curado K is a better built reel that will last longer.  But the Tatula CT has the better braking system and will cast better, especially in the wind.  That's just my opinion though.  And it's not like the Curado K doesn't cast well or the Tatula CT won't last a really long time.  So the differences are small enough that I wouldn't worry too much either way.  So I'd probably lean towards whichever one feels better in your hands.
