Ron_C Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 I am looking for a custom built bass rod (spinning). I would appreciate any information you might have. Has anyone ever heard anything about Chaos rods? Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted November 30, 2006 Super User Posted November 30, 2006 I have not heard of Chaos rods - but if you want a custom rod then you may want to try John Bokanovich out of Salinas, CA. He is known as the "Michelangelo" of fishing rods. Incredible work and reasonably priced. His number is (831) 424-9699. By the way he's been building rods for YEARS. The first rod he made for me was a G Loomis back in '96. It is still to this day one of my favorite rods. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Chaos rods, Out of Florida, mostly salt water rods, priced to sell, handcrafted (but that doesn't mean custom), 1 year warranty on graphite rods and limited lifetime on glass rods. Tight Lines!! Quote
SneakySnook Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Chaos makes a nice saltwater rod but not sure about a freshwater rod. If you were in Florida I have a couple of guys that could help you. Quote
justfishin Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 If you live in Florida, check out GATOR RODS. The owner is a real great guy to deal with and their rods are great and very reasonable. We love them here in Maryland. Most of them are either X-Fast or Fast action. If you are looking for plenty of backbone this is a great rod. www.gatorrods.com THE AFFORDABLE CUSTOM ROD The objective of Gator Rods is to give you, the angler, a custom-built graphite rod at an affordable price. All of our rods are spined (see FAQ), assembled and hand wrapped by professional wrappers in the U.S.A. The eye placement, weights and actions of these rods are a composite of the needs and desires from you, the angler. The result is a light-weight, sensitive fishing rod that is pleasing to the eye yet tough enough for the "Big One". We feel that when you pick one of these rods up you will see that our research and open ears has given you what you have been wanting - "The Affordable Custom Rod". THE FINAL CAST All Gator Rods are made with the sole purpose of catching fish, a lot of them. But this is a two way street, the fisherman and the fish. Sometimes the fish gets to let the fisherman go, but in most cases, it's the fisherman who can let the fish go. Live release - it works. SneakySnook Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Check out karmarods.com and dudleyrods.com both in Florida. Karma rods make nice light weight rods. If you e-mail him or give him a call he will get you what your looking for. Dudley rods is great also. He uses g-loomis and st.croix blanks. If your looking for a custom made g-loomis rod give dudley rods a try. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 2, 2006 Super User Posted December 2, 2006 Ron_C I have not had any personal dealing with our own ReelMech, but the first place I would start if I were in a position to buy a custom rod would be with him. I have been a member of this forum for some time and read many reviews of his work. He regularly offers free advice and specific help on this board to all who ask. This is not a paid endorcement-just my .02 His contact info is on his signature line. Quote
scbassin Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I agree with K-Mac, Reel Mech is very helpful to the members of this forum & if I was looking for a custom rod he would be on my list to talk to, after all we know him look how long he has been here & he is stright up with his answers. If you are looking for a cheap custom rod buy a good rod off the rack you will be happier. To build a custom rod is labor intensive so they are a little pricy. If you are going to have a rod built use a good quality blank & parts you will be very happy, remember you get what you pay for. vtbassin Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I also agree with K_Mac. I haven't purchased any rods from ReelMech but he was so very helpful when I decided to try building my own. I am sure you wouldn't go wrong commissioning him to build you a rod. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 4, 2006 Super User Posted December 4, 2006 First of all, Welcome aboard! Although I do not have a custom rod made by ReelMech, I have had reels serviced by him. In addition to being a SIGNIFICANT contributor to this forum, his professionalism is unquestioned. He is an expect in his field and has offered important information to every rod builder on this forum that requested help. If you are looking for a rod builder you can trust, I HIGHLY recommend David Green. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Thank you all for the kind words. I currently have 2 rods that I am working on, plus a bunch of client reels that need my attention and more coming. But I'll be glad to work with anyone on a custom build or just to answer questions. Tight Lines All! Quote
justfishin Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Hey Ron C, I told you to check into Gator Rods because I really like them and they have been good to me but, after reading some of the post in here by ReelMech I am very impressed. This guy knows his stuff and I would recommend speaking with him. If you want a true custom rod I would think that this is a guy you want to talk to. Good luck. Quote
