Glue recommendation to repair reel seat hood cover

I just received my new Fantasista X casting rod in the mail today. As I was screwing my reel on, I noticed the carbon fiber “cover” was loose. It’s not a huge deal, I was able to slide it up and tighten the reel down, but I’m afraid during casting the cover will slide up the rod. 
 

Can anyone familiar with these rods recommend a glue that would be safe to use to secure the cover back on. Thanks in advance.

Who knows what they use but jb weld and itll outlive the rod

I'm a big fan of Rod Bond U40 for things that flex.

Rod bond is the right thing but last I knew it came in bigger containers than you’ll need. 30- minute two part epoxy will do just as well. Like in the link above, take some fine sand paper or a heavy kitchen scrubber and get the surfaces as clean as you can and take the shine off of them.

Return the new rod with photos or contact the rod builder to find epoxy compatible with the composite and whatever they used.

I’ve had that happen on a Cara and a Rush rod years back. Tape off areas, and use a 5-minute JB Weld epoxy.

 

100% the cause of this is over tightening the reel to the seat.

I get that it’s a warranty covered issue but if you want to save the hassle and wait, any epoxy adhesive will work fine.  Devcon, Gorilla, etc. keep glue off the barrel threads and clean up with alcohol.

So funny enough, as I was pulling all of my reels to clean them tonight I heard the dreaded pop as the carbon hood cover came loose on my own rod. Slightly different seat to yours but the same hood nut. I used gorilla glue because I had it handy. It’s drying now and will be good to go in the morning. 
 

I was surprised at how little glue was used in the first place to hold the carbon cover over the plastic. Just a couple minuscule specs not much bigger than a pin head.

Did you use something to protect the threads? That stuff expands. Good idea though. It's not brittle when it totally cures. That's why I went with the plastic bonder epoxy. It doesn't dry rock hard like well mixed standard 2-part.

I had this happen to my ARK Tharp rod. Tape off the outside of the carbon and the raised part the carbon bumps into. 

 

2 part epoxy of your choice...nothing less than a 5 minute set time. Clean out the inside of the hood and scrape the upper seat with a pick or razor like above and glue the two together. Once its in place clean up any excess (dont go hog wild with the glue) and peel off the tape. If you let the glue cure before peeling the tape it can sometimes make the job a bit harder. 

 

While I agree for a rod that cost that much warranty should be the first option, something that simple I wouldnt bother.

I unscrewed the hood entirely off the reel seat and slide it up the blank where the logo is.  I also put a paper towel between the hood and the blank.  Not my first rodeo.  Had one little spopt where the glue pushed between the carbon cover and the plastic nut that was easily sorted with a finger nail.  I must have used just a little more glue a little closer to the plastic nut side than I intended.
