floridabassboy Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Im looking for a good quality saltwater reel that i can use off the beach on boats or from piers and docks and i would like it to be 100$ or under i want it for snook and also be able to handle a big fight for bigger fish. Quote
Aaron Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I would look at Penn Reels if I was you. There are some steals on ebay. I just got a Penn 309 for 30. Quote
Big T Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 One word about Penn Reels, if you Buy one, try to find some of the old stock that is still made in the USA, all the newer ones are being made in China. I found some 450 ssg's that were made in the USA, and some 550 ssg's made in China. Another good choice would be the Shimano Spheros series. I would get it in either the 5000 or 6000 series, just for the line capacity. Hope this helps, Tony Quote
eulerentinc Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Look at the shimano Cardiff reel. A good all metal bodied reel for 100 bucks. They have 3 different reels to choose from depending on line capacities. I used it when i started fishing salt but use it now as well for bass fishing. Quote
SneakySnook Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I have a shimano symmetre that works great for me. Quote
jacktrevally Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 For saltwater you have a wide choice From your budget, I have a few in mind: As already mentioned the spheros is great, the Okuma V system, The daiwa Caldia kix, the tica taurus, the tica sortera, Shimano Qd... ect Quote
floridabassboy Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 I GOT A TEAM DAIWA TIEARA ITS NOT EVEN AT BASSPRO YET AND I COSTS 125BUCKS BUT I ALSO HAD 2 SHIMONO SPEROS Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted December 4, 2006 Super User Posted December 4, 2006 What are you looking to do with it? I know you said saltwater from boats, beach, piers and docks but are you talking about tossing 5 oz spoons/jigs, live bait rigs, plugs, surfcasting, etc...? Either way, you'll probably want to look at a higher line capacity reel. If you're looking for a baitcaster, perhaps an Abu Ambassador 5500 or 6500... Quote
PeterF Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Being that I live in South Fla, I do a lot of saltwater fishing. I use my reels for fishing for bass, bonefish, permit as well as yellowtails. I use the stradics 2500 and 5000. I love these reels and they work very well in both waters. When using them in saltwater remember to wash them down real good. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 5, 2006 Super User Posted December 5, 2006 You want a reel that lasts a lifetime so buy a Van Stahl. Quote
