Super User TOXIC Posted January 7, 2024 Super User Posted January 7, 2024 You’ve gotten solid advise on a lot of the setups so without adding more brands to the mix, I will give you my most “versatile” set up even though it’s technically too light for some spinning applications and too heavy for others, I could make it work. Rod: 7ft Medium, fast tip. Reel: 2500 size. Line: 8lb straight mono. Even though that setup is a little heavy for Ned and too light for some weighted plastics, it will work well for weightless Senko style, DShads and dropshots. You could also throw small cranks and top waters. I have dedicated setups for dropshot, Senko, etc, but the above setup is the most versatile if I had to choose just 1. 2 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 I fish all spinning and fly gear, never tried a baitcaster but I've always believed that anything over 1/2 oz is better on a baitcaster. True? 1 Quote

True? I'd say so. I grew up on baitcasters so I suppose it might be bias or something. But I have always put the "lighter" lures on spinning reels and kept the bigger lures on the casting reels. PaulVE64 Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Yeah, on my river I bring one rod and it's usually a 6' mlf. Right now it's a StC Triumph but I've also enjoyed a Fenwick HMG. My next rod is likely a StC Avid 7' mlf with a BG3000 Quote
