Jimmy Wallhanger Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Got a rod I sort of planned on using as a crankbait rod but now Im not so sure as Im reading the action shoudlnt be fast as you will just rip the bait outta the fishes mouth. Just got back into fishing last year after a LONG lay off of 30 years. When I last fished it was simple, it was a spinning rod and a pumpkinseed tube or a chartruse grub lol. Thanks 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 Top water walking lures, poppers and jerk baits. Also good for finesse T-rigged worms. Tom 3 Quote

It's a medium, so it'll have more flex down into its length. Spool up with softer mono if you feel it needs more stretch and you should be just fine. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Tubes and grubs still get bit with regularity. A mod or mod fast action aids keeping fish pinned but you can 100% land fish on a crank bait with a fast action medium power. 3 1 Quote
Firstoutfisher Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Weightless 5" senkos, and other weightless plastics that are harder to cast on a medium heavy, also a perfect rod for soft plastic jerkbaits 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I think you’ll find lots of uses for that rod. If you fish from shore at all even more so. I have a 6’6” mf it’s one of my favorites. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 I have two MF rods under 7'. They are very different from each other, but both very useful. One is a good jerkbait rod, but I don't love it for much else. The other is my favorite small crank, popper, and blade bait rod. Like most of my rods, neither is exactly what I envisioned it would be when I bought it. Tie on a variety of different lures in or close to the rod lure weight rating and see how it performs for you. "rip the bait outta the fishes mouth" has never been a concern for me. 2 Quote
ironbjorn Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I fish lipless crankbaits and squarebills on a MH/F Zodias just fine. Big Game mono. A M/F is a good jerkbait and popper rod. All of these are treble baits. Definitely not the end of the world and the ripping the hooks out thing is way overblown. This would also make a good weightless plastic rod. 2 Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 13 makes a good 6.7 M power. Theyre designed for treble hook baits and wont be too stiff to pull hooks. Really all the M power rods I've used, other then some much older SC Ms, had enough give to work with trebles. Even if you use braid the rod usually has enough give to avoid tearing. Quote
