I would honestly love to purge ALL of it, and then just buy what I know I like, BUT, I wouldn’t know what I liked unless I bought all the stuff and tried it in my area.  So it is kind of a catch -22.  I am also a sucker for good deals and buy too much when I see a deal.  I also buy stuff to “try” when I see good deals.  I need to just stop watching fishing stuff, reading fishing stuff, and then buying fishing stuff, but that is really no fun.  Part of the fun for me is trying stuff and messing around with it.  My buddies also like my addiction as they get to use a lot of stuff for free!!

I see in your signature "fishing dad".  Not sure how old the kid(s) are but my dad's been dumping all of his unused stuff on me for the past 3 years now.  Every time I'm home or he comes to visit I end up with another 3600/3700 box full plus a cardboard box or grocery store bag.  This latest round is a 3700 box with half a dozen walking baits, half a dozen jerk baits, half a dozen crankbaits, a couple pencil poppers, and a couple other assorted.  The cardboard box was 4 reels from the 50's for me to check into.  I'm certainly grateful, but I'm past the point of how much I can carry in the kayak.

@Munkin- compared to the past 3 years I've significantly pared down the new stuff for this coming season.  The past 2 years I overindexed on crankbaits and plastics.  This year I have a couple topups for plastics I used.  I have 3-4 jerkbaits in a saved list (which might get eliminated with this latest box from dad).  I have a little terminal tackle for places I had a hole while on the water last year.  Other than that the big spend was a new rod and reel.  Like in previous seasons I pick a technique or two to focus on more through the year and get better at it.  This year its going to be spinning rod finesse (to go with the new spinning rod).  I already have a bunch of neds and ned like things, so I'm just organizing them into one bag/box that I can carry when I decide that's something I'm doing that day.

That’s super cool.  I really cherish the hunting stuff (especially guns) that I got from my dad, especially now that he is gone.  Those memories flow back wonderfully when I grab one.  I have two girls 21 and 18.  Both have fished and hunted with me, but never really fell in love with it.  They still go when home and will even jump in a small tourney from time to time.  I do end up giving some of my stuff to students and kids I see on the lake and it is fun to see their excitement too.

PNW is beautiful for 2 months a year and rains constantly the other 10 months.

I’d much rather live in the PNW than in hurricane country. Rain doesn’t bother me one bit. Whole lot better than the alternative which is drought.

Why would you make that move unless you are in the military? PNW is beautiful for 2 months a year and rains constantly the other 10 months.

Don’t let Glenn hear you bad mouthing the PNW ! He’s liable to compare Washington  seafood with any other state in the country - then it gets ugly real quick as Glenn easily cruises for the win (lol !) … I moved to be closer to family plus I just can’t handle  hot , humid Georgia summers along with severe weather storms that seem to get stronger and begin earlier each year in the South East  . Yes , there is a lot of rain in the PNW but it doesn’t rain all day and rarely rains hard .

I'll take objection to that - as a born and raised 'Yankee', I'll pit MA/NH/ME seafood against WA any day of the week.

Nothing beats an old-fashioned New England Clam-Bake for eating either.
