Super User Munkin Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 Trying to cull tackle so I am going to not buy much this year. I am going to pick up a few things listed below. Evergreen JT 95 Iovino Popper Jackal Nagisa Vision 110+ Jr Bulk spool of 6 or 8lb Floro (I forget which I need) Have the guides wrapped on a baitcast rod I started building 2 years ago Plan is to get rid of 10 lures for everyone I buy to thin the herd. Fishin Dad Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Sounds like a good plan!! I say the same thing all the time, and really want to stick to it, but then I watch a video, talk to a buddy, see a great sale and get STUPID! I go into the fishing room and say to myself, “How did you get all this crap and how are you ever going to use it all!” I set my mind to it and within a couple days, I seem to forget. I hope you make it. I am still trying. Quote

I have fishing stuff piled where the pellets normally go and, on the steps, making it hard to get into the basement. Garage has been taken over as well and its a major PITA twice a year storing her Jeep doors. Besides I have NIP lures I bought 15+ years ago just sitting around. Figured if I have not used them by now I never will so selling could free up money for a FFS setup. Allen 1 Quote

I have totes full of new baits and I am not sure I will use it all. It seems like as new stuff comes out, I want that instead. I told my fishing buddies they don’t need to bring much tackle this year if fishing in my boat. I need to use some stuff up. I need to stop looking at the emails I get about sale crap, stop watching videos, and stop being tempted. I am a weak weak man. 2 Quote

Now I have sold or given away 16 rods in the past 3 years so they are almost under control. Reduced my number of Plano boxes from 119 to 82 so some progress is being made. Allen 4 2 2 Quote

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 Crankbaits were one of those deals that I told myself I’d be in serious bait monkey trouble with if I ever got into them. Well I’m into em right now and I have this fantastic habit of throwing them around wood so 3 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 Well the last year and half I got into BFS and it changed how I fish for bass. It also has sparked my curiosity for trout. I fished for them in the past on spinning gear with some success. In 2024 I want to get a rod specific for trout and use one of my BFS reels on it. Then get some more trout specific baits to go with it. Other than that, I would like the time to fish and use what I have. 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 I need a couple trolling rods, and a couple 9' MH muskie rods. Need some big rubber baits and more cranks. Gonna build some more bucktails and chatterbaits. It ain't gonna be a cheap year. 3 Quote

Super User Jig Man Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 Sounds like you guys need to form some groups like AA. You could call it BJA (Bait Junkies Anonymous).🤑 1 4 Quote
Pat Brown Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 For my birthday I'd like a tiny klash 9 but beyond that I'm pretty good on tackle. I just need to put it in a fishes mouth now! 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 I had another thought.... I want to add a trolling motor to my kayak. The last time I looked at this, it was about $2000. It just seems crazy but I am getting to the point where it's getting hard to battle the wind. Plus it would give me the ability to cover more water. It might end up being a project for next year. 1 Quote
Functional Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 The bait monkey may push me into a 360 setup this year but as far as tackle I plan to just chew through what I have on hand. I've at least been able to hold to my rule of "if it cant fit in the boat, dont get it". However I feel like I add anything else I'll be breaking that rule. The bait monkey did bite me one last time for 2023 when Dicks had 6th Sense Trace baits 50% off just before Christmas. Picked up a floater to test against my slow sink. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 I have most things I need. I already picked up some senkos on Black Friday since I have been in short supply most of last season, and will check chunks and finesse worms which should be the only thing I may need. On top of that, I need new hooks for my shore fishing box as they have started to rust out after several years and some ned rig jig heads since I lost a bunch late last year for the same box. Finally, as I got a Blackpak pro with no lip that can carry several 3700 boxes for next year, I want to build a box specifically for things I would throw on my favorite rod for topwater and jerkbaits as frequently I will throw jerkbaits during the day and when dusk hits I will cut it off and throw on a popper and fish shallows for actively feeding fish. thinkingredneck Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Now you guys need to get into fly tying. Your wife will love it... 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted January 2, 2024 Super User Posted January 2, 2024 Just remember you bought every lure you own for a logical specific reason. If you get rid of ten lures, one of those lures is going to be the only lure in whole world that will get the skunk out of the boat on a tough day, and another one would have caught you your PB. I recommend you reverse your strategy, and buy ten lures for everyone you loose. Not only will you have the benefit of more lures you can't possibly have time to use, but you will also not be fighting the very forces of nature that make the world stable. You can always buy your wife a new coat, which should solve the stove pellet problem, and remember there are many fisherman like me that would love to have a garage to fill with baits. Consider yourself lucky. 1 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I'm going to get a few Spinnerbaits & Buzzbaits, Spunk Shads, Jig Heads, Hooks, Line. Just waiting for the next sale 💰 Just finished going through my tackle and made a list of my needs/re-stock. 2 Quote

My Pelican has a 50lb minn kota that ran me $250 including the $100 battery. I will be adding a second trolling motor and battery this year and ditching my paddle. Quote

The wiring harness and mounting plate costs as much as your Minn Kota. I am looking at the Motor Guide XI3 with gps. I just googled it and went up $200. It's now $1349. 1 Quote

Mbirdsley Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 I have a lot stuff i need to get rid of. Most of it will probably go to the trash and i’ll give some to my nephew. I try to stick to a 2 year rule. If i havnt used it or caught a fish on that lure. i’m getting rid of it. Seems the used market is pretty much flooded with tackle, boats, rods and reels. between shipping cost, ebay costs, pay pal, etc, etc. it just seems like isn’t worth the time effort to try and sell it and get what pennie’s on the dollar i could get. By the time you factor in all the above costs for most used items a person might as well by new. Honestly other than deep diving jerk baits i’ll stock up on the plastic i need and call it good this year. not this fall but, the next i want to upgrade my boat to a bass boat. 1 Quote
