Mossman Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Just curious if anyone has ever put together data on various rods strength or rigidity. Maybe by measuring deflection at various points, using various weights to graph results. I am thinking about this as I am looking across brands and how one companies medium isn’t the same as another’s. i am sure there is a lot more to it but this seems like a simple and effective way to start. thoughts? msgf91 Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Tackle tour has something similar. Where they use a Loomis MBR as the standard then when they test a new rod they compare it's deflection to the MBR and other rods. The MBR was the standard when they started years ago, now they have enough data for averages Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted December 31, 2023 Super User Posted December 31, 2023 The common cents system was designed back in 2002 or so as a measure of action and power (one number for each). Primarily it was used by rod builders to compare blanks, but then some manufacturers started lifting rods with it and rod builders started measuring and reporting factory rods to get comparable blanks. Then, there is a more involved version which measures deflection at various points along a blank to describe the change in power and action through the curve. It’s more involved but still simple to measure. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Ccs objectively measures power and action without subjective terms like mh etc. The vast majority of rod companies don’t use it for reasons we can only speculate on. There are some data bases online that individuals have complied but even the best is far from comprehensive. Quote

Mossman Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 So I’m not crazy thinking this was something worth doing! I’ll dig into this info! Thanks Quote
