BB1 Pro 7.5:1 use

I  just got this reel and I'm trying to figure out the best use for it. I have lots of reels and don't have any gaps in my needs but thought I'd put this where it would be the most effective. I have a 6.2 of the same reel for crankbaits  and the 8.3 for throwing frogs a long distance and wondered if this 7.5 would be good for throwing very lightweight, soft plastics like flukes and trick worms since it is supposedly a long casting reel. Or what is a great usage for it?

I got mine on a 705cb fury for burning lipless cranks and squarebills. I’m sure it would work just fine for plastics. Not sure about really lightweight rigs though

I use mine for jerkbaits and topwater.

I have this reel and can't imagine throwing weightless plastics on it.  I'm sure it can be done but I'd prefer a 70 or 100 size for that application.  The BB1 series is designed for distance castings plugs and other power fishing, straight retrieve baits.

I missed the part about light weight baits. I would say no. A 5in Senko, sure. As far as being a long distance caster, maybe with a 1/2oz bait but it's nothing spectacular.  Not knocking it. It's still a solid reel.

It's a versatile well built reel reel suitable for lots of techniques. Mine's currently on small muskie crank/jerk duty.

Mainly

Use a 6 speed for deep cranks. 7.5 I would use for spinnerbaits and lipless and buzzbaits. Definitely asts about 15 feet further than other reels. Also has more line capacity so good for trolling a rigs and cranks.

They’re a good all around reel. Long casting doesn’t translate to light weight or bfs casting.

I'd use it for bass fishing.  All kinds.

 

Don't believe the ratio hype.  You can use it for anything.  Some might work better than others, but 7:1 is getting to be the norm.

 

I still like 5:1 for cranking, but other than that, I buy 7 for everything.

The only ratio reel with a mechanical advantage is a 5:1 for deep cranks, big Colorado spinners and other high resistance baits. All the rest are personal preference. In my case I like faster reels for taking slack if a fish runs a jig etc strait me or getting a buzz bait on plane. The fast retrieve for more casts in a day idea is one I’m not sold on. Ymmv

I can't tell the difference in one leap in ratio (5 to 6, 6 to 7, or 7 to 8).  I can feel two numbers.  I have them all 5, 6, 7, 8.  The last few reels I have bought are 7. . .

 

Most of my flipping reels are 8 to 1 Lew's Super Duty.  I tried the fast reels when they came out.  They work, but some times I flip with a 6 to 1 if it's on the deck. 

 

I can still remember the old red Abu's at 3.. to 1.  We caught fish on 'em.

Almost bought one of these on sale the other day, was gonna run it on my paddletail rod. Would be good for hucking baits way out there.
