jaystraw Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I'm pretty new to bass fishing and very new to senko fishing. I just recently had success with some senkos and have been swearing by them ever since. For some reason this annoys one of my friends..which I take full advantage of while fishing with him. Just good natured ribbing, but a lot of it. Well, yesterday I was fishing up in Vermont when this happened to me. We had a pretty slow day when I decided to throw on a senko and see how it went. I started catching fish almost right away, and after a few smallies my buddy (different guy) requested one of my senko's. Mine was pretty beat up, so I tossed a new one on my hook as well I was casting out (5 inch watermelon with black flake senkos, texas rigged )when I felt I had another fish on the line, due to my poor knot tying skills, the fish took my hook and brand new senko. I tied on another hook and senko, and we kept fishing and pulling in fish About an hour later the friend who was also using a senko got another fish on the line. When he pulled it into the boat, it was a decent smallmouth. My friend says to me: "This fish already HAS a senko in his mouth!" I looked over, and it must have been the same fish that took my senko, and it still had the hook and senko in it's mouth! It came up and ate my friends senko while still having one embedded in it's lip and being stuck in it's mouth. Now THAT'S an effective bait!! The only question I have is...are bass really stupid or is it the senko's? Quote
Bizzo Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Definitely the senkos. I caught a nice smallie a while back, took a pic and let it go, The next day at the same spot I caught another, then I saw the hook mark in its jaw. I took a pic and compared the two, sure looked like the same fish to me! I use trick sticks from ***. Better than the original senkos, or at least as good in my experience. Quote
jaystraw Posted August 26, 2007 Author Posted August 26, 2007 trick sticks are on my shopping list. Quote
Triton21 Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Jaystraw, I caught my PB, 8lb 9oz at Lake Fork last March while at the Bass Resource Outing. I hooked her on 'back to back' casts. I had caught 4 or 5 5lb'ers and had not retied and when I hooked her the first time she broke my line.(my mistake) I tied on another hook, baited with another BPS Sticko, cast the same snag I had got the bite before and hook a fish. When I got her in she had 2 Stickos and 2 Gamakatsu weedless finese hohs in her mouth. BOTH MINE. Kelley Quote

I guess the fish are really not that bothered by a hook in their mouth..or at least their hunger overcomes it. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 Jaystraw, Practice tying the Palamor knot. I use it all the time and so far no slips. Also, be sure your drag is set so she can run and tire herself out before your line breaks. Have learned about the above by losing some nice bass. And are the fish that dumb? Nope. Just agressive and doing what Mother Nature has taught them to do. This is why bass fishing is so much fun. Keep on pitching those Senkos, both Texas rigged and Wacky rigged. Quote
koko36265 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I have done that before to, only not with the same bait.... 1st I was using a red and black flake power worm.... A fish took the worm and got wrapped around a tree and it broke my line.. About 20 minutes later I was using a spinner bait and caught the same fish with worm, hook, and line still attached... Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I had this happen to me this spring when I was using a fat ika on one of my favorite lakes. But I actually caught the bass and brought it out of the water and about 45 minutes later caught the exact same fish again. Gotta love prespawn. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted August 27, 2007 Super User Posted August 27, 2007 All these cool storys and yet i can't catch a darn thing on senko stickbaits....I was out for 8 hours last week fishing NOTHING but the senkos and stickbaits and had one small 10'' fish to show for. They are not my confidence bait.I'm like muddy man with his confidence in jigs. ;D I really wish i brought my jigs with me that day. I was determined to figure out how to work that senko though...that i did do.I think it's just the lake i fish...seriously.Throw tubes, jigs or some sort of kreature bait and you will be catching the bigger fish.Very few people who fish that lake has figured that out so far. bassman00012 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I heard smallies can be aggressive, but wow that is an amazing story. It's the senkos ;D Quote
