Any day a Johnston brother doesn't win an event is a good day in my book, so I'm a little somber this evening; but, on the brighter side, since it was 'like a tournament from 2017 but with anglers you’ve never heard of,' I don't feel quite so bad :P

Hope they run another one or two yet this year, but pull a wider swath of anglers.

I think the tournament was a success.  I hope there are more.  My only suggestion is they should play music from the pre FFS era during the weight in.

No it doesn’t make sense, the devil Alabama bass were supposed to eat all the LM according to science 😂

Not to derail this thread but I’ve read comments like this before. I’m not familiar with Alabama spotted bass. Are they invasive species? Was there really a serious thought that they would out compete and eat largemouth?

@gimruis, yeah there is a thread (or two) on here about it as well

Might start with this thread, or more specifically the OP's video, then dig into all the back and forth after that if you so desire. It's (the video) a pretty decent start to the subject, but there are quite a few threads on the subject to some degree or another to search through.

Some studies have shown that they outcompete and spawn with other black bass species in some lakes where they have been illegally introduced.  It’s especially concerning in lakes with smallmouth.

Does the result of this tournament prove that LS is an issue or that LS is not an issue?

Probably neither. Need a bigger sample size.

And isn’t it great that pretty much no one has an issue with that 😎

Lol - closest I’ve seen is Fritts’ $80-$90k Ranger with a pair of Eagle Sixty Thirty’s mounted front and back alongside his modern Lowrance units

I still like a flasher. I wish that mode worked as fast as the originals.

Yeah, I’ve got two “like new” Lo-K-Tors, one I fish with and one a collectors piece. Being portable, I’ve set them up and run them side by side with my Lowrances and Humminbirds in traditional  mode and was surprised at how close in timing the units were if you have the scroll speed adjusted correctly. Didn’t compare flasher mode, though. Also ran a Vex straight-line flasher for a while, but not quite the same as the old flasher bulb units.

I saw this Lo-K-Tor at an antiques shop a few years ago.  They didn't know if it still worked.  Anyone know when they started making them?

Vexilar flashers are still very popular up here during the winter while ice fishing.

Honestly, I wouldn't even know how to read one anymore.  It's been 15 years since I even used one.

Technically, 1957, though they really didn't gain any press (newspaper back then) until 1959-1960.

In 1959, I was still on the nipple.

I once played a video game. "Once played" makes it sound like it was a one and deal done, but I was addicted to that game and would play it until four in the morning. I'd be exhausted, but keep playing. I'd be spending hours and hours in a basement when it was beautiful outside, but keep playing. When I quit it, I never bought another, just like a beer alcoholic can't switch to vodka and be suddenly safe. I watch people of all ages staring at their smart phones and see me, staring at that video game. I fear an FFS screen would transfix me in the same way.

Anyway, I don't need FFS to catch bass. I rise earlier than most and work to reach water that most won't fish because it's too hard and that keeps fish swinging over my gunnels. I can't imagine dragging a transducer where I fish anyway or lugging a battery through the woods. FFS is for anglers with trailers and ramps.

I use basic Lowrance depth finders, one on the bow and one on console.i use them for depth and temperature and study contour.I’ve got nothing against the high tech stuff it’s just not in my wheelhouse.

I was pulling for our local brethren to win this thing but some got close but no cigar.I tip my hat to the Canadian pros, don’t know much about them but they sure can catch bass.

I’ve still got an old Ted Williams Sears flasher

Out of curiosity can someone explain how those flashers work? I have a 98 triton that came with one in the dash. I tried using it but couldn’t understand it(I’m 35). So I ditched it and the factory lowrance at the bow for new hummingbirds. As far as this tournament trail I like it. Variety is the spice so they say. My understanding as far as funding is a Saudi group is invested. If I read it correctly it’s the same ones from Liv golf but I could be wrong with all the different happenings in BASS, Mlf, etc. I wish Randy and Millikan both would enter just to see who does what. I also wish we had limited to no ffs or graph tournaments locally. Either way I’m going to fish how I like and watch what interest me.

The local guy I follow who's a guide uses FFS and everything on his boat...in the winter, he's all about Vexilar.

Got to bring back the Alabama rig to the Elite Series! I was ready to quit my job and fish full time to win the Classic! Then they banned the A-rig and ruined it for me!!
