I had an issue today with one of my spinning rods. The line was spinning on the spool. So if there was even a little pressure reeling in, the line was spinning. Not the spool, not like drag, just the line on the spool itself. Anyone else have this happen?

Braid with no backing?

Correct.

If you don’t want to use mono backing just put electrical tape around the spool one time and the braid will grip it without slipping.

@KSanford33 I’ve seen that happen when it’s cold & braid is essentially freezing to itself on the spool. Common on spools that lack "threading" pattern into which the braid/line can dig. Quick fix is the tape method. When ready to change the braid, a cheap backing will also help reduce the amount of braid used.

Take it off. Use either mono-to-braid or strait braid on the spool. In both cases, use an arbor knot to secure it and then put a piece of electrical tape on the line as it lays about 1/2 turn. Done.

I've seen it on casting reels, but never spinning reels.  Though the solution, I imagine, would be the same.
